MstrTech
Thanks for posting the pics, Andrew. What grade would you put the GL #7 at? I'm really testing my grading chops on this collection, so I may be off. Hopefully I'll get a better idea of how my grading compares when some of these books start coming back from CGC. I would say it looks like a solid 8.0 w/ the poss. of going to a 9.0, not sure about the top lft. corner and did not take to books out to inspect the back covers. kimik
Thanks, Andrew. When do you think the GL issues and the B&B #28 will be auctioned off?
MstrTech
I’ve asked both my contact at Heritage and the consigner to keep me in the loop as to when books return from grading and when books will be put into auctions. That being said from this point on neither has any obligation to me, so we’ll see. From what I understood the “key” books and HG books that meet the minimum requirements for Heritage Signature Auctions would be placed in the February Auction. Any of the other books not suitable for grading could be available within the next month or so. The remaining books would be however long CGC’s turn over is currently. They estimated they would move the whole collection within six months. I’ll definitely keep everyone posted with any information I get. MstrTech
Hi Andrew, Were these all of the books he had, or just the higher grade ones? For example, does he have a Detective #400 in FN/VF that did not make the cut? Cheers, Ryan Ryan While this was not every book he owned, it is all he cosigned. He had left one box at home but it contained more 80’s 90’s books, so not worth the time. So sorry no 400, if it’s not on the list he unfortunately didn’t have it. Superman: The Earth Stealers (DC, 1988) #1 knowatteye mean? Couldn’t agree more aman, but it’s what he had. I was trying to be complete in the list. I know most have little to no interest in the 80’s books but the were in his collection so there on the list. His list was short I didn’t think anyone would mind. They can't all be like my dad's. tth2
Thanks for posting, Andrew. Very intriguing list of books. Also very interesting to see that he was still buying books until relatively recently. Will certainly be interested in seeing what kind of grades come back from CGC. Flash105
Your dad and I could be great friends. That list of books is pretty much my collection that I sold in 1994. kimik
Damnit - I was outbid on all of the lots from your Dad's collection that I was bidding on tonight. I really wanted that Superman #304-319 run in VF/NM, but foolishly forgot to check in during the last minute with a higher reserve bid. MstrTech
As promised I'm keeping you updated. The "new collection" gets a name: Heritage ( thankfully ) has given the collection a tag line name. The consigner decided to pay tribute to his mother, for not throwing the books away , and will be known as the "Helen G. Collection". They will call out the collection in the newsletter this week or next. About 33 lots have already been entered into the auction starting on Nov. 15th from four of the titles: Action Comics Aquaman Batman Detective Comics All the current lots are from around 1960 and will be sold raw. Heritage felt this books helped represent the collection's overall grade. More lots will be added in the following weeks. I've advised them with the current popularity of GL that more of them should be graded so we'll see. I think that's it. Any questions just post or PM.
