No one will tell you that you are in the wrong.

However, you do need to go ahead and put this on ebay ASAP with a $500 starting bid, as it will likely sell.

Then you can put this behind you and you can enjoy the fact that Bill who thought he was putting one over on you, has now made you a great profit and him a douchebaggery reputation

Pretty obvious that Bill doesn't care what any of us think of him.

Too talented, too rich, too special, too selfish.

Bill will ignore this thread just as he ignores the fans who buy his mess.

For the record I love his work on Fantastic Four and own one original

page from the run. Now I gotta draw a peniis' into each panel.

Have you ever met Bill? It's not that he doesn't care; it's that his ADD won't let him focus long enough to understand the problem.

Honestly, the guy is very nice and I've never seen him be a dick to anyone. However, I have seen him blow off people because he forgot they were standing right in front of him after something else caught his attention (no kidding).

I've said all along, if you like the guys work and want a sketch from him don't give him money you wouldn't be willing to set on fire. When I got my sketch from him in SD this year I intentionally offered him 1/3 less than the guy on the list in front of me because I knew there was a big risk of not getting anything at the show. Fortunately for me what I asked for piqued his interest so he did it that day. At the end of the show there were still people ahead of me on the list waiting.

I've neved met Bill. Like his art and loved his work on my favorite book, FF.

He may be very nice to some but this isn't a case of blowing,

pun not intended, someone off or forgetting he is there. This

looks like a deliberate insult to someone who did nothing more

than pay for a commission and get frustrated with zero progress

for 3 years.

I can see how having ADD might impact Bill's ability to

remember or commit to a commission but insulting a fan who appears

to be reasonable is pure rude. It appears that Bill is calling the fan a diickhead and that has nothing to do with ADD.

doh!

I wonder how long it will take for this thread to be the OP's fault and we'll just agree that B.S. is a good guy with ADD and us folks who like art are jerks...

Dan

doh! doh!

Learn to read, guys. That's not what I said.

Sorry SG. I was replying to your statement that Bill was very nice. I don't see it.

Nice would be an insta refund and heartfelt apology or a published page of his OA or some gesture that said 'sorry, let me make it up to you'.

I know class and this isn't it.

I've never bought a commissioned piece before, but after reading this thread, and having heard about the previous Michael Golden incident, I could never feel comfortable giving an artist advance payment for a promised piece, regardless of who it was. I have to agree with whoever said that if the customer doesn't pay, the artist still can sell the piece to someone else, but the other way around, the customer is left with their money stolen or not getting what they paid for.

It's sad that honest artists have to get tarred with this same brush, but I think those who make their living off commissions ought to be at least as outspoken about those dealing in bad faith as the customers; after all, it's their market that's threatened by this sort of behavior.

True. If he did what it appears he did then my opinion of him just being an ultra-flaky artist changes. I was speaking only of my experience(s) around him, and that's been quite a few (didn't really realize it until I started rereading this thread).

Regardless of what's hidden in the picture, there's no way what he did was cool. The piece, in and of itself, it pisspoor. I've seen him give away free sketches that look better than this.

I paid for my sketch early in the morning and was told later that night that not all of the sketches are completed in a timely manner.

. . . .

It was a cowardly and low thing to do and he knows it. I dare anyone to tell me that I was in the wrong.

1) that means 3 weeks, heck, maybe 3 months, not 3 years!!!

2) i've read the thread...pretty much everyone agrees with you... it was a half-arsed sketch to begin with and it turns out he was giving you the finger in the process too. once again, i have no idea what this guy is thinking, someone will put a bullet in your head for less nowadays.

Guys, for the record, SG told me to expect a possible problem receiving my sketch later that evening at our CGC Forum Dinner. I paid for my sketch early in the morning and was told later that night that not all of the sketches are completed in a timely manner. Too late by that time as I was not attending the con the following day. People can say anything they want, but here are the facts.

I dare anyone to tell me that I was in the wrong.

You are not in the wrong in the slightest. :sumo:

During the Michael Golden "Patience is a Virue" mess John Byrne did just that (without bashing Golden IIRC). He offered the guy (Gerry Turnbull) a free commission because of his issue with Golden. Mind you, Gerry was a regular buyer of commissions from Byrne too so he was just strengthening a relationship with him, but it was still a good thing to do.
