Timely cover artists ( particularly Schomburg) did a great job of combining classic pulp motifs like dungeons, torture, bondage, mad doctors and monsters with violent WW2 imagery on their covers. Other companies did this as well, but probably none so frequently as Timely, and DC tended to avoid the more lurid covers. It's a testament to their effectiveness, that it is these types of covers that exemplify the Golden Age more than any other.

Timely's are cool!!

I agree.... something about the visual activity, violence, and often crude drawing that give Timely's an edgier look than DC's for sure..

Agreed!! Too bad because imagine Fred Ray, Jack Burnley, Jerry Robinson, Sheldon Moldoff, etc drawing those violent Timely style war covers. Or Mac Raboy? Timely apparently had less restrictions compared to DC. MLJ made some good war covers that rivaled Timely but their focus changed quickly with the rise of Archie and the Riverdale gang. But yes the violent, crudely drawn covers do have a special charm.
