Kansas City cgc 8.0 Action 1

I don't knock Superman returns for any specific plot line. I knock it because it sucked huge, giant monkey nutz. :D

I not only enjoyed it quite a lot, but it received largely positive critical reviews, scoring somewhere around 77% positive on Rotten Tomatoes. The action sequences were quite simply the best special effects we've seen featuring Superman to date, particularly the airplane rescue scene and the one where he's flying around Metropolis saving people from falling debris resulting from the earthquake caused by Lex Luthor. Much as is the case with the original Hulk movie, I don't get why everyone bashes these movies in retrospect, yet at the time of their release, they were well-received. ???

But completely separate from the overall appeal of the film itself, I don't get why fanboys like us can't look past all that and just get off on the action sequences. I own this film on BluRay, and when I pop it in the player, all I do is go straight to the action scenes. Isn't this what any guy should do? What exactly is WRONG with all you nancy-boys and your fru-fru obssessive desire for unparallelled writing, acting, and directing? (tsk) Have you never actually read a comic book? They're almost NEVER written well, yet we remember them fondly because we love seeing heroes in action. All that should ultimately matter is that the action scenes ROCK!

Agreed.

I really liked Superman Returns and the 2nd Hulk movie. Thought they were great when viewed independently of what we are used to in comics.

I'm a bit of a chick in that I really felt for Supes when he was getting beaten up at the end of the movie.

I didn't like the casting. I found the people themselves to be unbelievable. C'mon, Kate Bosworth? Really? She was great and great to look at in Blue Crush. That I can believe. As Lois Lane? Ughh..... Kevin Spacey, who I think is a great actor seemed more like a caricature of Lex Luthor than the real deal. Routh? He looked the part and I think he was actually pretty good.

I just didn't think it was that great a film. Both Batman movies = great. Iron Man = great. Fantastic Four, Daredevil, etc....= shyte. Supes Returns was far closer to being shyte than it was to being great.

It just wasn't that good. Yes, the action scenes were good. But if action scenes made for a good movie, then Transformers 2 would be watchable more than once. As it stands, I kind of think of Supes Returns like a porno film. You fast forward through all the dialogue and only watch the "action" scenes. ;)

I agree with all of that, except that the glass isn't half empty, it's half full...and that's a WORLD of difference. :cloud9:

1st off, couldn't agree more on 2nd Hulk. Not a fan of Liv Tyler (outside of Stealing Beauty). But Ed Norton is a fantastic and under appreciated actor. I actually didn't mind the 1st Hulk but that had a lot to do with Jennifer Connelly :cloud9: and Eric Bana, who doesn't get enough credit either. He was good in Black Hawk Down, Munich, even the Time Traveler's Wife was watchable.

And I love Supes. Don't anybody get me wrong. Superman is awesome to me. But he's just not the king of the hill anymore and Supes Returns just wasn't very good imo.

As for you feeling bad when he was getting beat up doh! that explains the long hair you wuss. Better tell Lou to get you a big box of kleenex if you watch the Time Traveler's Wife with her. You'll be bawling like a little girl with a skinned knee. :baiting:

Glass half full and all that like FF said. I was deprived of going to the movies as a kid because my folks that it wouldn't be good for me (didn't see Star Wars till maybe early 1980's) so to this day I have this inner kid glee when I see a Superhero flick on the big screen.

As far as chick flicks, contrary to what my contemporaries might think, I'm a softy. Lou's been trying to get me to see the Time Traveler's Wife for weeks.

I just can't get myself to do it.

lol

As far as "chick flicks" go, I would say it's more than bearable. The premise is what kept me open minded. I mean the guy travels through time!! For comic book geeks like us what more could we ask from a chick flick? At least they're throwing us a bone with the sci-fi angle. Plus, Rachel McAdams makes me :insane:

Without giving anything away, there's a scene about 10 minutes from the end with Ron Livingston (of Band of Brothers and Swingers fare) and Eric Bana that is short, with very little dialogue but is acted out wonderfully and anybody who has a brother or really close bud can't help but feel a bit moved by that scene.

the fact is that Supes came first and was responsible for the shift in sales. He is character that opened the door to every superhero we have today. Whether Batman would have had the same impact had he come around is debatable.

What is not debatable is that heroes with great stories, primary color costumes (I believe this is a very important one) and reader appeal are always going to sell and Supes was the first to do that.

If anything Batman was a foil to Supes. The anti Superman, and one would have not been as relevant without the other. Fire and Water (Timely anybody?)...but Supes did still come first.

Exact. Big part of the value of Action 1 is because Superman is the first one

Changing a bit of theme. Do you think next Overstreet should reflect this sale (ant the Tec 27 sale) in his value? I think thay have to, and I will be surprised if Action Comics 1 is not listed at $1 million in NM

Well, they don't list values for NM. 9.2 is tops, so you're suggesting that a 1M sale for an 8.0 will result in the 9.2 level reflecting that value? I don't think Overstreet will go near that. If they did, I wonder how they'd calculate the value of lesser grade copies.

Overstreet works on a rolling average so a sudden spike in price in the current year isn't fully reflected for 2 or 3 years -- assuming subsequent sales confirm the price achieved in a notable sale like this one.

What sales above 500k have occurred prior to this one? None that I've heard of. You can argue that a sale at that level could have taken place 3 years ago but that's your opinion vs. Overstreet's. For now, it's still the Overstreet Price Guide, with all of the positives and negatives that entails.

Well, IMO value for lesser grade copies should stay similar, or with a little increase. But 9.2 value should reflect this sale. We all agree the million dollar sale is justified because that was the best copy available, and we all know that there is only 1 known 9.2 copy out there and very little change there are other still unknown NM- copies.. It's a non sense waiting for another sale this huge to see if the price is confirmed. There will be any sale of this kind in the near future, and even if a NM- copy is available, the million dollar would be peanuts compared to what a 9.0 copy would sell.

Man, my english is little short to express my opinion correcly.

I was averaging the 200k zaid sale and the 317k metro sale along with the other 6.5 sale[240k] a few years back and this 1m sale.

Yes a little premature but Overstreet was always well behind the curve.

Superman movie news:

http://www.latinoreview.com/news/exclusive-david-goyer-hired-to-write-superman-the-man-of-steel-9286

Today is huge comic book movie news Wednesday. With the Captain America finalists breaking over at Marvel, we got something from the world of DC.

Our notorious trusted source 'Pinche Taco' came up big for us...

I know a lot of you folks are going to ask "Isn't Goyer writing the third Batman film?" Goyer is only helping in the story, he ain't writing it. Just like The Dark Knight where he only helped with the story.

Without any further adieu..

Hola Chicos, Pinche Taco here with the latest blatherings de nada de los Ninos de Hollywood!

So you will believe un hombre can fly! Te Juro. The talented David Stephen Goyer, the man who made sure Nolan stuck to the legend of El Dark Knight, has been hired to write the next chapter. Here is what El Taco can tell all you ninos....

1. Thomas Tull, the head of Legendary, got tired of all the discussion and decided chingate, let's do it. So he went to Goyer and Goyer had an idea that actually takes the movies back to the John Byrne incarnation. Modern. Believable. FUN! So Tull got Goyer hired.

2. The film will not be called Superman and will be called THE MAN OF STEEL.

3. Brandon Routh will not star in the film.

4. Nic Cage will NOT star in the fllm (lol)

5. Bryan Singer is not expected to direct.

Conoces como Mark Millar walks around acting like he was going to write it? El Taco discovered that this was always wildly_fanciful_statement. Paul Levitz hated the guy and he was never even discussed to write it. He made all that "almost" stuff up.

I can tell you that Goyer's story involves Luthor and Brainiac. It is NOT an origin and assumes audiences already know about Lois, Clark, Jimmy and Perry. I know the Daily Planet is struggling due to the internet. And I know it sets up a huge Kryptonian mythology.

El Taco is muy excited about this. This could be the Superman movie we deserve!

Yo soy El Taco y yo digo adios!

Stay tuned as the story develops.
