I think his actual first paid work was a Tarzan strip here in the states, but these weeklies would be his first professional work that appeared in book form. That's my take on it, anyway.

Did anybody here win it? I have seen it come up every once in a while. I'm curious though, does that Sketchbook Volume One usually go for that much? I didn't bid but that seems pretty pricey.

Yeah...seemed high to me too.

I didn't see how much the sketchbook went for but I would say a volume one, signed, with a CoA from the Dave Stevens Estate would go for a bit more of a premium than any regular signed edition. Just in my mind at least it would.

You're right. It came with a COA, and was signed. It did go for $108.49. That's nearly twice what I was expecting the final price to be. I was just wondering if that's in the usual range for that particular item.

The last two signed volume 1 sketchbooks were right at $100. One was over, one was just below.

I expected the estate copy to go for a bit more than it did.

Thanks, I'll have to adjust my expectations.

I have a question for everyone, though, do you collect the Dave Stevens t-shirts, too?

I do.

It's okay. Marilyn's undies just sold for a good chunk of change. :)

I've got one of those "swatch" cards from Donruss Americana that has material from a Marilyn Monroe dress, but I'm not sure I would bid on undies. What do you do with them? Frame them and put them in the living room? "Oh yes, those are Marilyn Monroe's undies" quite the conversation starter on bingo night I'm sure....

That's funny. The wife explains my Dave prints as "his comic book porn". :D

Her Fancy Pants Were Worn in the 1954 Movie River of No Return

$44,800 for used underwear? No. No? Even if the undies belonged to Marilyn Monroe?

That's precisely what one collector paid for Monroe's pantaloons at a recent Beverly Hills auction. Auctioneer Darren Julien says long, fancy underwear was worn by Monroe in the 1954 flick River of No Return, and the thought of owning a piece of classic Hollywood memorabilia was worth the hefty price tag to one bidder.

Sooooo, you might be get away with showing pantaloons off at bingo night.

(But I wouldn't try it.) ;)
