Soon I Will Be Invincible

The novel is told through two alternating first person narratives of the characters Dr. Impossible and Fatale.

Dr. Impossible is a self-proclaimed supervillain of the mad genius variety, who suffers from Malign Hypercognition Disorder

("evil genius" syndrome). Fatale is a female cyborg who is called up to join the superhero group The Champions

(a Justice League of America/Avengers-style team) in the wake of the disappearance of the superhero CoreFire.

Ok, you guys are driving me freakin' crazy with jealousy. I haven't had time to read in almost 10 years (job, business, 3 young kids, etc.). How the heck do you find the time to read, on top of your hobbies, and family life? :frustrated:

Currently reading:

Around the World on $80 - Robert Christopher (a book from the '50s written by an American who traveled around the world post-WWII on the cheap - so far, it's very interesting, though I think the book is long out of print)

Finished the above book (a very interesting read on global culture, politics and tourism in the early 1950s) and am now 100 pages deep into Elizabeth Kostova's 2005 vampire novel "The Historian".

John Steinbeck's Cannery Row! He's one of my favorite writers and more profound than most people give him credit for. I wrote my undergraduate Honors Thesis on his 1930s California fiction. I read his books over and over!

We read Mice and Men at school when I was 14 or so, and I loved it. Read all of his books since. One of the few authors that I can read over and over again.

I really like his non fiction too. Travels with Charley :cloud9:

Agreed!! TWC is a great travelogue. One of the best ever written!! For me, there is always a tinge of sadness when I read Steinbeck. My thesis advisor, Dr. Louis Owens, who was an internationally renowned Steinbeck scholar, took his own life back in 2002. I was devestated when I heard about it. He was teaching at UC Davis at the time and had just been invited to be a scholar in residence at Harvard. To this day no one knows why. You can google his name and read more about him. There is always a place in my heart for him.
