Super-cool. Any idea the origin of the stories?

Not yet. Like I said, I haven't been able to find it on GCD yet. I know it can be a bit of a labyrinth & until I got it in my hands, I thought it was French.

The ads on the back might be a clue. If I can find any of them on there, I'll at least know the publisher is listed. I'm happy to add it on myself, but I've not had much success trying to pin down any original stories in translation. I'll start digging today. :wishluck:

If anyone else knows, please fill us in. (thumbsu

Well done, Velma! :headbang:

That makes things easier. I was thinking that there was probably some domestic website that listed all of these. :)

Cool site, isn't it. That's the thing with comics, I find, all the world over - someone always loves them enough to build a website :cloud9:

And thinking again, now that I've had some coffee, these are probably Belgian originals. Not sure if you were implying that they were reprints. To be fair, I kind of assumed they were, which is dopey, I know. I guess I'm just too accustomed to dealing with foreign reprints of US originals. Sorry Belgium. :foryou: I know how seriously they take their comics.

Also, the interior art does look a bit Tintin-esque.

Yep. And, again, the Belgians (& the French), take them very seriously indeed.

Possibly. I don't remember precisely. Some great covers on this Samedi Jeunesse series.

Some new stuff:

never seen vintage editions ( but I am not a specialist ) ,I think there is some recent reprints .

I found a picture in a Heritage past auction where one was in the middle of a group shot.  (If it's Chinese, I apologize in advance.)

Can anyone tell me if this Strong #1 (1969) from Spain is anything special?

I noticed it has Smurfs on the cover so I thought maybe it's the 1st appearance of Smurfs in Spain.

Nothing about it on gcd. However, smurfs second publication is also from 1969, so you might be right about it.

I like the original covers for Kung Fu Fighter 16 & Captain America 158

Yes, nice covers.

This is from the main Wikipedia page for The Smurfs (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Smurfs):

"In Spanish, they are called "Pitufos", a term invented by Miguel Agustí who was the head of the Spanish magazine Strong which first published the cartoon in Spanish."

Sounds like Strong #1 is indeed the first Spanish appearance, because as we all know, Wikipedia is a 100% infallible source of information.

Nice book, and an interesting topic! I was never a big fan of the Smurfs as a kid and before your post I honestly thought that they were created by someone at Hanna-Barbera in the early 1980s...very interesting to learn that they were actually created in Belgium for a comic in the late '50s.

Something funny that I found out when looking for Australian Disney comics on Australia's Ebay:

This Australian edition with a cover that looked very familiar to me:

au_gs_604a_001.jpeg.118cb88441d32b6b60e3e13e0ffb6eca.jpeg

Doing some research I confirmed that this cover is the same as the one from this US publication from the year before:

us_md_0014_00_001.jpeg.c708deb7a32d72e901a892df0a9f2f73.jpeg

However, the reason the Australian was familiar to me is because the US cover is very similar to this one:

br_pd_1180a_001.jpeg.94ccd1f30e434a8149345f16ae425318.jpeg

released just a month earlier. How I know that? The above DD happens to the oldest Donald comic book that I had in my collection over twenty years.

And then I did a bit more research and saw that there is at least two more versions!

Apparently the one from the "Le Journal of Mickey" is the oldest of all (at least from a publication data), being released twelve days before the Brazilian one. It is possible that the cover was shared between the artists and they decided to make their own variants? As many stories from that time period were made to be published in many countries, this looks like a feasible option!
