Well read but my third Amazing Spidey Double Cover/Mark Jewelers Insert! (Joins #281 CGC 9.4 and #315 CGC 4.5)

Even has a star stamp! Keeping it raw so I can marvel at the rareness! :jawdrop:

Here's my ticket to the thread:

ASM101_f.thumb.jpeg.7e9a0f0a8aed2240b377f937c44b3f72.jpeg

Five years ago, I was looking for a high-grade ASM 101 to fill a gap in the PC. Just as my hunt moved into high gear, Sony announced that they were filming a Morbius movie (?!!?) and the price of that book shot into the stratosphere. Ugh.

Knowing Sony, I was 99% sure that the movie would be terrible, so I decided to just wait it out and pick up a copy after the movie flopped and prices returned to earth. The movie was scheduled to come out in July of 2020. I could wait that long. It would no doubt be a dumpster fire and I'd buy my book at the end of 2020.

Then COVID hit and the movie was rescheduled one, two, three, four, five, six, SEVEN TIMES (!), slipping from 2020 to 2021 to 2022. Each time the release pushed back, Sony blamed it on the pandemic (while somehow managing to release other movies despite the pandemic). It was becoming increasingly clear that even Sony knew what a stinker they had on their hands.

However, as long as the movie remained unreleased, "influencers" could continue to pump the book up and the "comic boom" only made things worse.

Finally, Sony ran out of excuses and had to show their hand. Morbius hit theatres on April Fool's Day 2022 (and then, bizarrely, again on June 3rd, 2022). It didn't do well either time. The movie is currently hovering around 16% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Which means that I was finally able to get my copy, and a double-cover copy at that!

Someone else just had to show up my 3.5 again...

I just found this book as I was preparing books to sell. A second cover in the centerfold. Do you think CGC would still grade this the same way as a normal double cover?

Very cool book that would get a Qualified label.

I had a DD 168 like that. They graded the outer cover, gave it a blue label and a “manufactured with extra cover in centerfold” notation.

I also have an Amazing Spider-Man #265 that has a blue label with a "additional cover bound at centerfold" comment.

He paid well into 5 figures for his...so don't feel too bad. (Although I wish I could just drop 5 figures on a comic...now I'm depressed again...)

You had already reacted, but I thought your comment was humorous,  it was meant to be humorous back lol

All great books though!! Just way above my pay grade hahaha

Me too. The most I've ever paid for a comic was $6500 for an Amazing Spider-Man #1 signed by Stan & Steve(yeah...it's legit).

Ended up finding out that it's the sister copy to the Amazing Fantasy 15 signed by Stan and Steve that sold for $72000 in 2021. Both were personalized to a Charlie and Stan used a marker while Steve used a ballpoint pen.

Spoiler

So I wouldn't take less than 5 figures for it, but I've never paid that for a book myself.

The thing I find interesting about this is that with double covers, CGC usually grades both and then bases its overall grade on the better of the two (I don't feel 100% confident in that statement). If the cover is bound at the centerfold, looks like CGC mentions it but does not give it a grade.

I would imagine that a cover bound at the centerfold might be preserved in fantastic condition.

I would assume CGC handles it this way because if you take the outer cover off(or inner cover if the outer cover is nicer), it would be a single covered book with that grade. If you took the outer cover off my ASM 265, it would be a coverless book with a pristine cover bound at the centerfold. Which would just be ugly. :nyah:
