Watched a sparkle city auction for a Archie number 10 end on eBay the other night. It went pretty cheap ... $100-ish. I know it wasn't a beautiful book but had it been an earlier issue, based on what we've seen lately, it would've gone for many multiples of guide. It seems that there's a huge price shift from Archie 1-4 to Archie 6-10.

Is is just me or does PGX instantly remove credibility from an auction. Here is an Archie 50 on ebay.

Seller has great feedback, book is high priced but there is an offer tab, and if this was CGC'd it'd be gone by now, but … no, it's a SPOONing (did that myself) PGX. Instantly all I can think is 'what is wrong with the book that the owner sent it to PGX to be slabbed?' Amateur resto? Detached cover? Etc., and of course I have ZERO faith that the book is a 6.5. I'm guessing a 5.0 at best, and a purple label with CGC. Any thoughts?

That is my thought. I don't have #50 yet but I'm not even going to waste my time on that one since my offer would be less than half of what he's got it listed at.

I tend to approach any PGX book as if it's overgraded without regard to appearance. They've had too many examples of extreme overgrading. I would agree that it's closer to 5.0. There appears to be too much spine roll for a 6.5.

On an unrelated note, Archie 1 on HA is bringing the big bucks again! 13k with the live auction still to come for a taped up 2.0. Sorry but I just think that's awesome. I wanna have my raw unrestored copy slabbed just to know for sure. I'll keep my restored one raw. I look forward to the day that my $200 purchase s selling for 100x!

$16,730 for the Archie 1 2.0 on Heritage.

 

I guess that fits right in with what these have been going for. It reinforces the strong prices instead of making any of them look like an aberration.

 

I remember it was only something like 3 years ago when there were virtually no sales records of Archie 1s so it was really hard to pin point value. The grades are starting to fill out now on GPA. This was the 1st 2.0 that GPA has recorded.

I bid about half of that knowing I would be outbid, but still hoping there was a chance I could snag it.

 

It was really difficult to know how high this was going to go since there aren't really any comps for a piece like this.

I was watching the bidding on the Archie 1 page and actually thought it would go higher, given the run up in prices of the comic.
