Precode horror is dated in the sense that people today have seen much worse. My daughter and her friends find precode horror books funny and find nothing scary or horrific about them. There's another cover that is similar (I cannot recall the title at the moment) of a corpse hunkering in wait behind a headstone, and that one also looks like a monk.
