Anyone seen a creator be a jerk?

Marv Wolfman told me he would sign ten books for me then I would have to go back to the end of the line... problem was, there was no line. So he made me wait a few minutes before signing the next batch. (shrug) It was more absurd than offensive.

This makes me think of the airline desk clerk at the end of Meet the Parents.

I think it was a subtle way of saying "that's all the signing I really want to do, please don't ask for more."

MIke Baron has been the only person to every actually pissed me off. I went to have him sign a copy of my Flash #1 and he rolled his eyes at me said nothing and signed it on the inside like he was ashamed of it. If you want some to care about your new book on Jazz I guess you shouldn't act like an , I might of actually asked about it. From what I saw the rest of the convention he pretty much got no traffic. Now I don't know whether to throw or give the book away.

James O'barr was definitely off putting but I had heard that going in.

Met O'Barr at Heroes Con1994. This year was undoubtedly the highlight of his fame. New Crow movie came out... all kinds of merchandising $$$ to be made by him... everyone wanted to meet him...

... and it felt like he hated every minute of it. :( I mean he wasn't rude or mean... just that he really would have been happier if his book hadn't have taken off. If that makes any sense (shrug)

I asked him to sign a Crow movie and please personalize it to one of my friends as a gift...

He said (in his vampire-ish voice)... " I will sign it any way you so desire " :o

He became close to Brandon during the filming of the movie and hates it that his movie resulted in the death of his friend. Ive had many conversations with him and he has been nothing but nice and cordial and has helped me land some other artists for my shows. Give him another shot. He may surprise you.

Both Brandon and Bruce died making a movie about a guy who comes back from the dead.

They ran out of dummy bullets so they emptied the powder and put the slugs back in. When the gun was fired there was a small pop no one noticed. The primer had enough force to send the slug into the barrel. Then when they used blanks for another scene, blanks have a full load of powder....

I worked with inker Bob Almond for a few weeks since he was searching for an assistant, What an egoistical jerk! He's worse than I am!

Bob's an awesome guy, he's always been very friendly with me. He often allows me to leave my stuff at his booth at shows, with the only payment being that I allow him to smell any particularly pungent back issues I purchase. Hey, we all have hangups.

True story.. First time I met Jim Starlin I handed him my Batman 426 to sign and he wouldnt touch it because it had a Mike Mignola autograph which was signed with a silver sharpie. Apparently Jim's allergic to silver sharpies. Im not making this up.

If you want Jim to sign a book for you DO NOT have him do it with a silver sharpie

Allergic to Silver? hm

Another clue that Jim may, in fact, be a werewolf.

Logical deduction :applause:

I asked him one time, Why Don't you try and work for Image? He said "What makes you think I haven't?! Then another time he's showing me his old stuff he did when he was learning to ink, he said "This stuff is stronger than yours and I'm using Synthetic brushes"

You could come over to his house and work, then he'd come in the room and yell at you cause you had a bumpy line, you couldn't call him, he'll call you instead.

Then I got a letter in the mail of him offering me his Bernie Wrightson prints for $300...

After that I had enough of that guy.

I think the reverse-he was good at 23 terrible after 27....

Are you serious?

Go out and buy The Studio. Go out and buy the Weapon X trade. Go out and buy Rune or Archer and Armstrong or his black-and-white Conan comics.

Ugh-I prefer his work on Conan

Rune the faces were stretched out about 10 feet and he lost that energy he had....

It's like he was trying for the Image style-not good.

So you haven't seen ANY of his fine art work done in the last 25 years then?

No that stuff is ok though I prefer his BA comic work

It's just his post BA comic work that makes me puke-Rune Weapon X et al

Doesn't he make you sign a contract saying that when he sells you art, that if you sell it you have to give him 15% of what you make, including people that own it down the line?

A lot of creators, actors and athletes can be real sphincters. This is why I tend to avoid most of them. Love and appreciate the work, not the man (or woman for that matter).

Exactly, I really couldn't careless what they have to say. Why I don't understand people waiting in line for some pornstar or some TV show actor.

My one bad experience was 20 years ago at DragonCon meeting John Byrne, who at the time I was a huge fan of. He barked at me for not having my books out of the bags ready for him to sign.

He wasn't wrong. But for whatever reason, I just haven't been as big of a fan since.

You're probably the reason why he ended up putting a sign on his table asking people to have the books out of the bags and ready to sign when it's their turn lol

 He may have even had a sign out at the time....

Neal Adams.

I thought it would be a good idea to get a remark from him......

30 minutes later after he had a quarrel with his (wife?) and chatted with a bunch of other people (never once speaking to me) all the while I waited with my hands in my pockets he finally finished.

When he asked if I wanted an inscription and said no, because I wanted to make a jam piece out of it. The face he made was less than enthused.

Never again.

I had a similar experience. More than a bit arrogant.

That is weird

What about RAW-will he sign RAW?

The signing had two rules.

1. Two book limit.

2. One of the books had to be from the last 15 years. Republications do not count.

Within twenty minutes of the signing Art stopped signing books and yelled about how there were more signed copies than unsigned copies of Maus in circulation and that this is why he doesn't agree to signings. This was a reaction to someone bringing book 1 and book 2 of Maus to get signed.
