New York City comes to Brisbane ahead of Thor: Ragnarok shoot

Spoiler: Marvel's next Thor movie will, in part, be set in New York City. That has been the biggest clue yet to come out of the Brisbane CBD set, which will continue to cause traffic disruption this week.

Of course, having New York scenes in a Marvel movie is not much of a spoiler and plot points for Thor: Ragnarok are a jealously guarded secret among the cast and crew that have called south-east Queensland home for the past few months.

The reporter calls out to Chris Hemsworth 'Hey THOR - give us a wave!'

Loki stealing the scene once again.

A mystery actress showed up on the Brisbane, Queensland set.

Despite the Marvel crew seemingly going out of their way to make sure bystanders couldn’t see the costumes nor the scene being filmed, which takes place in a “New York City alley,” amateur photos show Hiddleston’s leathery green suit partially covered in between takes. Furthermore, only the lower half of Hemsworth’s new God of Thunder threads was visible.

As for the abovementioned mystery lady, The Courier Mail claimed her to be Cate Blanchett wearing the full Hela costume, while the Daily Mail suggests that it’s Jaimie Alexander finally making her return as Lady Sif. However, upon a closer look, both sources are wrong. The actress doesn’t appear to be any Thor: Ragnarok cast member previously-announced, so who is she in the film?

I had no idea Taika Waititi was such a comedian as a director.

I remember happening across his 'What We Do In The Shadows' and thinking how odd but funny it was. It was about vampires living together in modern times. Even better, it has Jemaine Clement and Rhys Darby from HBO's Flight of the Conchords.

And another surprise - at least to me.

Jeff Goldblum Studies Up For Thor: Ragnarok

tJfpUTj.png

Thor: Ragnarok's Jeff Goldblum is preparing for his role as the villainous Grandmaster in the best way he can -- by reading old Thor comics.

The issue in question, Walter Simonson's The Mighty Thor #374, doesn't actually feature the character Goldblum will be playing -- but it's not as though a comic guest-starring X-Factor (a property whose movie rights reside at 20th Century Fox) was was ever going to be particularly illuminating on plans for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Simonson's run on Thor is widely considered to be the best modern take on the character, and each of the three movies have owed at least some debt to Simonson's work. Walter and Louise Simonson -- his wife, who is herself an accomplished comic book writer and editor -- had a cameo appearance in Thor.

Of note: John Workman, the letterer on The Mighty Thor #374, last week won a Harvey Award for Best Letterer...for his work on Walter Simonson's IDW Publishing series Ragnarok.

Lou Ferrigno Will Reprise His Voice Role As Hulk In THOR: RAGNAROK

Although this source is a few months old, one bit of casting news that seems to have been overshadowed and overlooked in favor of Tessa Thompson being cast in Thor: Ragnarok is the inclusion of The Incredible Hulk himself Lou Ferrigno returning once again to voice the Hulk in the film.

Lou has provided (uncredited) vocal work for the voice of the Hulk in The Incredible Hulk, The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Taika Waititi On If Doctor Strange Is In Thor: Ragnarok

A year after Doctor Strange is released, Thor: Ragnarok will come out in theaters. That means, moviegoers will have plenty of time to get acquainted with the Sorcerer Supreme, so when the God of Thunder holds up a piece a paper with "177A Bleecker St." written on it, as seen on the Ragnarok set last month, they should immediately realize that's the address of Doctor Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum.

"Ohhh I don't know," director Taika Waititi told Digital Spy. "I am not sure if... I don't know actually. I can't comment on it. It may have just been something for the fans."

Not letting Waititi off the hook so fast, Digital Spy asked him if Benedict Cumberbatch, the actor who portrays Stephen Strange, will make a cameo in Ragnarok? "Might be something like that," he answered. "Might be a little tease. Or maybe a tease just for people who wanted to zoom into that photo."

Hemsworth packed on the muscle for the role!

Chris Hemsworth Is Jacked For Thor: Ragnarok

Hemsworth posted the following image on Intagram revealing his massive Asgardian biceps.

"Bulldogs yesssssss!!!!!!!!!" Hemsworth enthusiastically posted about the Western Bulldogs Australian rules football team winning against the GWS Giants and proceeding to the grand final.

Chris Hemsworth is going to need all those muscles as he's going to be taking on the Hulk and a lot more in Thor: Ragnarok.

Karl Urban Wraps Filming On Thor: Ragnarok

Near the end of July, once his press commitments for Star Trek Beyond were completed, Karl Urban (Dredd) headed Down Under to begin work on Thor: Ragnarok, which commenced filming on the Fourth of July. In the film, Urban is playing Skurge the Executioner, and in order to resemble his comic book counterpart, the 44-year-old New Zealand actor had his head shaved.

Fast-forward to now, Urban has wrapped up filming. He made the announcement on his official Twitter account, tweeting a photo of director Taika Waititi and a thank you message to the cast and crew.
