Here are my five selections. It was a great year!

Splash Pages:

Captain America 225 Splash By Sal Buscema.

A full page splash with Captain America and Nick Fury in a very Kirby-esq style.

Iron Man 32 Splash by George Tuska

I loved this image as soon as I saw it. Sadly I missed it when it was posted on a major dealers website. Eventually it found its way on a CAF member's gallery. After a little bit of persuasion, and a decent profit, the collector agreed to sell it. This piece is framed on my wall and looks magnificent!

X-Men 22 Splash by Werner Roth

A nice early X-Men page featuring the X-Men in training. Professor X brings out a giant robot for his young team to battle.

Interior Pages:

Amazing Spiderman 82 Page 2 by John Romita Sr.

I always wanted a page from Amazing Spiderman featuring Mary Jane and Gwen. Most seem to be in very firm hands, as was this one. Even though this page doesn't feature Spiderman in costume, it has great images of both MJ and Gwen along with great dialog of their love for Peter.

What If Spiderman Had Saved Gwen Stacy? By Gil Kane

What if indeed.....nuff said!

Nice! I'd wondered where this got to. It came to my attention first as the pictured piece in a 1990s Sotheby's (iirc) catalog representing a huge lot of Sal Buscema art (hundreds of pieces, again iirc). I think the lot went to Conrad Eschenberg or if somebody else broke it, he got a big chunk. How do I know this? I fed at that trough for a lot time in the late 90s and early oughts. But this one piece...eluded me. Then it was with the Donnellys for a while (big WHATEVER for me there!) and made one or more appearances on CLink (iirc) but didn't meet reserve or things like that. I have a feeling it was being shuttled about by the Donnellys the whole time.

I'm really happy for you, it's a nice "single panel interior page" ;)

These are the pieces I chose to enter this year.

3 in the Pin-Ups/Splashes/Single panel pages :baiting:

100 BULLETS 28 Page 04 - This page really benefits from having the word balloons on the page.

DORFLER Page 39 - Jeremy Baum isn't a name that has ever been mentioned on these boards (except for by me). My Baum collection definitely falls within the "buy what you love" heading. And at 100+ pages of his in my collection I do love his style.

THE MAN WHO LOVED BREASTS Page 13 - I decided to NOT enter one of the pages that prominently display the protagonists main love from the story. Instead I chose this page for it's layout.

2 in the Panel Pages category:

BATMAN 621 Page 09 - This page made it's way through several CAF galleries before I was lucky enough to strike a deal for it. I consider myself extremely lucky to have been able to secure this Risso gem. :cloud9:

PREACHER: Saint Of Killers 02 Page 17 - I've been able to add a PREACHER page to my collection each year since I started collecting OA. This is one of the better ones I got in 2015. Already this year I've put out some feelers for a page, but no luck. I hope 2016 doesn't break my streak. :tonofbricks:

I bought way too much art this year - 23 pieces and as usual picking among them is tough. Also, as usual, my collecting for the year is mostly commissions.

After a lot of thought, here are my submittals plus one.

Published/Unpublished Commissions

Alex vs. Supergirl by Anthony Carpenter

deFmQCTI_2312151735101.jpg

I’m a member of a group of OA enthusiasts and about a dozen of us had a Secret Santa gift exchange by mail. My Secret Santa knows me better than I know myself. This drawing matches one of my themes (artists and the characters I associate with them, Supergirl vs. ? in arm wrestling, and Sugar & Spike 100 covers - some add MLP art, but …

It was a huge surprise and I really like it. Click the link for a picture and more on the event.

Archie Legion vs. the Fatal Five by Dan Parent

0BoEBAmi_1001161705021.jpg

This idea was kicking around my head for a long time. This year I decided to make it real with Dan Parent’s help. He did a great job and you really should check it out. The Description tells about the initial idea (from someone else) and about the character choices.

Maleficent by Michael Dooney

1IBtSnZl_1001161710201.jpg

My wife is a big fan of the Disney villainesses and Maleficent is her favorite. Of all the ones she has, this is her favorite.

Sugar and Spike #100 by Katie Cook

SLloz2Yz_1001161713541.jpg

One of the things I like to do is have humor artists create their version of Sugar and Spike #100. The rule is that they have to work their own character(s) (preferred) or ones that they are known for into the image with the kids.

Published Covers (Unpublished covers as well)

Betty & Veronica Double Digest 14 by Dan DeCarlo

cNss4sSg_1001161715561.jpg

This cover is very special in our house. It’s the cover to the first comic that I ever bought my girls. I still have the remains of that comic on my book shelf. It also was the core of a commission that I had done by John Sterling Lucas for my eldest daughter’s college graduation. Click the link and read more about the pieces including places where the joke was used before.

Honorable mention

JL8 Class Photo by Yale Stewart

GN4KZpUt_2701151117291.jpg

Yale’s JL8 web comic strip is a fantastically good read. You really must try it. You can see

more of his work including the OA for a couple of strips here.

The quest towards The Fifty has really altered my pace of acquisition so I posted the only five pieces of consequence to enter my collection this past year (one left to come though).

And I stare at the hole on my wall where my Mazzucchelli DD page used to be.

Focus has its' rewards but also its' own devilish punishments.

Is it normal for there to be so few entries at this stage of the game? Do most people normally add in the last day or two? It seems low to me, but I don't have data to support that.

Its been a pretty good turnout for the first 3 day, close to 300 entries which is about 1/2 of what we get in today each year. It will slow down during the week since people are busy at work. Then there will be a rush over the weekend. I encourage everyone to enter, you don't have to enter 5, even one piece is welcomed. Its great to see what people have gotten over the past year, many of the post I miss since the CAF has so many members.

The yearly Best of is open to all, regular and premium members but I do encourage all who are not Premium Members to consider becoming one. There are alot of great features offered to Premium Members, the best for me is the daily emails and watched galleries. Can't say how many pieces I have acquired over the years thru those two services. Pays for the Premium membership.

Or if you just want to support Bill and CAF and all it has done for the comic art collecting. CAF does take donations.

Don't forget to enter in the Best of 2015
