fastballspecial Posted December 3, 2016 Share Posted December 3, 2016 (edited) Watched the 1st episode last night and I'm hooked. What is not to like about a creepy, sci-fi western. Watch the 2nd, 3rd and 4th episode as they repeat endlessly. The loops are part of the narrative and the backdrop. I don't understand people's problem with that literary device. It pays dividends very quickly, IMHO. Nothing against the OP, but many of co-workers have the same thoughts many have stopped watching already. They are already looking for another series. I have switched to Luke Cage currently. Had the loops been for maybe a episode or two it would have been a better benefit. It just dragged on too long for me. Many of my co-workers thought since this was promoted as the "The Next Big Thing" from HBO they would enjoy it more. Reviews have been good for it so its not hurting in that department its just not the discussion topic at work Mondays like GoT or WD is and I think that's why some of stopped watching it. When "freezing" the bots you would think there might be a bunch of visitors walking around the park waiting to get everything started up again. A park like this, I expected to be filled with "normal" people and not just the bots. I'm interested to see if they clear things like this up. I like the show, but it seems to have a lot of plot holes/plot silliness as compared to the average quality of the shows HBO puts out. One thing I thought was weird, was that Ford Had the old picture of Arnold sitting on his desk. No one has ever looked at the picture and said "Hey wait a minute, this doesnt make sense." I am also wondering about the HR department at Westworld. Do they have one? Does Bernard get a paycheck every month? Is there really nobody at the park who met Arnold or has ever seen a picture of him, considering he is one of the founders? exactly! and also to how come the visitors never are awake when maintenance is cleaning up! There are no all night partying revelers? anywhere? My guess is that the third guy in the pic is Arnold and Ford has been playing Bernard all these years (every time it came up) that he's a very important clone of the co-founder .. then again Ford could be Arnold! Or the whole thing could be in the mind of the person at the middle of the maze. The fact that the dead host seem to appear in the morge seems to make me question if any of it is "real". And until she started fighting, I didn't recognize the android with the snake tattooed on her face (Armistice) is Ingrid Bolso Berdal who starred with Dwayne Johnson in 'Hercules' as Atalanta. She was a badazz! So I guess Season 2 is going to include Medieval World, Roman World and potentially Future World and Samurai World due to the characters we saw practicing in the lab. Loads of questions from that final episode. 1) Was that really Dr. Ford or the android that was being built in his secret lab? 2) When the decommissioned androids started attacking - and Clementine shot at William/Man In Black - was he shot or was that one of their dummy rounds? 3) It appears Maeve was following a programmed path the entire time based on what Bernard noticed in her programming. Then, Ford does the same, only with all of the board and guests and him, keeping the hosts alive? Is the idea that they can't reopen the park because everyone will now see it's too "dangerous"? At first glance, I don't see much to the Escape programmed into Maeve, except to see whether her free will causes her to stay instead of escape. So maybe that's her freedom, to escape from the programmed escape? This is the last spoiler post I'm doing here. Why come into this thread if you haven't watched all the episodes? Also, unless we see a body, MIB/Billy isn't dead. He was really shot. There was blood. His smile was a realization that what he'd been looking for (consciousness in the hosts/Dolores; real love/danger from the hosts) was happening. When Bernard walked her through what he discovered, you saw key words called out in the programming language (e.g. ESCAPE). I thought the word after the sentence with 'ESCAPE' was 'RETURN'. But could be wrong. I will probably rewatch that entire episode, as there was so much going on it was easy to lose track of some of the details. We could debate for a year about whether Dolores starts shooting or if Maeve boards the train or if William and MIB are the same. Think how that would help with ratings!
