I'm surprised Heritage doesn't change it to X-Men #19 as that would make it more prestigious to pitch to sell.

My thoughts as well. :)

Why wouldn't the seller ask for it to be changed to the correct title?

Mebbe they didn't know.

I only buy OA from books I've loved & read, so I know the art fairly well. Not everyone collects the same way.

A lot of sellers have no clue what they have when they contact heritage.... we are always assuming people selling art know what we know....heritage posts wanted ads EVERYWHERE, and i'm sure a lot of art out there is given to them where the consignors know very little about what they have!

The sad part about all of this is that a lot of Heritage people working in the comic art dept dont know these things because they aren't serious collectors of art like most of us here are...I've bought a LOT of higher end (4 and 5 digit valued art) from Heritage that was misidentified in one way or another, and rest assured i'm not telling them that as i'm not getting paid by them to do that. now for artist errors and things like that i always tell them if i believe they've made a mistake.

I bought a piece on HA that wasn't correctly described as well. I think they do a good job considering the mountain of stuff they move, but yeah I wasn't about to pipe up either

I once had a silly argument with HA over an artist's name because the HA specialist didn't actually know the artist's work and simply relied on a Comic Book DB entry that was wrong (and the frustrating thing was that the Comic Book DB entry had a scan of the cover that showed the artist's name, but I guess HA didn't bother looking at it, just the text entry).

HA hosted a preview last night in their SF office. I went with a couple of friends/boardies. It's a good excuse to get together. Any other collectors in the SF Bay Area who want to meet up at the next one, just shoot me a PM!

Hiya, folks:

By this time in an HA auction, we'd have a rousing discussion about the prime piece or two and give our guesses as to prices realised. We haven't had that discussion yet and I'd like to put a bit of a twist to it by asking more knowledgeable collectors what prices they think the following pieces will end:

1. BWS conan #8 cover. I've heard the trifecta formula of the 3 B's really puts these in high demand... Babe, barbarian, beasts. This one kind of meets the criteria, I think. Safe to say it will crack $75K?

2. Aparo Detective 496 cover. Nice image of Batman vs Clayface. HA notes they have sold very few Aparo covers , and Aparo is very well associated with Batman so I'm wondering if this one should crack $5K? $10K?

3. Teenage Dope Slaves. Man, the awesome title for this infamous comic is worth the price of admission, but any thoughts as to the final hammer price?

This cover is amazing. So curious to see where it finishes

25k reserve on the Thun'da page, last and only one on the sold archive sold for around 12k. This is a splash page though. Oddly someone listed the ENTIRE first issue from #1 on CAF just 2 weeks ago, amazing stuff.
I'm not sure what you saw, but if that's true it was a scam. I have a page (which aint goin' anywhere), and I know of a few others who have pages from Thun'da 1. Is it possible you just mean the first story? That was sold as a lot long before the rest of the book surfaced for sale, fetching something like 15-20k a page.

Actually, I see now that it's just the first story, 10 pages, on Eric Robert's CAF. I guess I remembered it as being fewer pages in the story, but I vaguely recall it selling years back for around 100k, so 10k a page. Since a Personal Love half splash sold a year or two back for around 25k, that doesn't seem outrageous

My buttquotes with zero research are

1 60-80

2 8-10

3 35-45

Given how good my estimates are :insane:

1. I will be surprised if it doesn't crack $75k but not much hire

2. I love batman art but this one does nothing for me I don't think honk it is even on my track list. That said, it may hit someone's sweet spot so I expect closer to $10k than $5k

3. Boy talk about an iconic cover but you know, doesn't excite me but I sure there will be several people chasing it. I can't imagine paying over $50k. Personally I would not bid on it at all since it just doesn't hit my collecting interest.

# 4 sold for 89k in 2014.

# 9 sold for 87k in 2013.

Seems a safe bet it cracks 75k, unless there is some qualitative reason this cover is deemed inferior to the other two (I can't really pick a favorite of the lot).

Good info. They do seem pretty similar in quality at least to me. #9 is probably my favorite of them, but I can see others having different favorites.

3 is a tough one to handicap for sure. I saw it as under 50 for some of the same reasons, but all it will take is two people that like it for it to blow past that number. That being said, I don't think it happens.

I was taking a run at this and still am thinking about it. Im not rich by any means, but its one of the books i always thought of when i thought of comics. It stood out to me as a standard. Hearing talk though about prices, i think this is gonna go well over my single item budget. its one of the most iconic covers ive seen in a while.
