It isn't comprehensive, but MH does its level best to track the various newsstand editions and similar shenanigans to a better degree that most other sites (mostly so that Chuck can pretend that anything with a newsstand barcode is worth $100... or more). That sometimes makes for a useful research tool, but it'll be a cold day in hell when I pay his newsstand prices. Frankly, very little at MH is worth the prices they set, but I'll admit that I've bought a handful of books there. Stuff worth $8-10 that I paid $20 for because it was obscure and they had copies. Frankly, I'd check MH more often for some of my weird modern quest items -- I'll pay more than FMV near the end of runs sometimes -- except that their grading is also so inconsistent as to be a lottery. At this point, I think the most reasonable explanation for it all is that Chuck is more interested in Mile High as an institution than maximizing the value of Mile High as a business. oldmilwaukee6er, musicmeta and Hudson
mec3437
Up until a few years ago it wasn't terrible with his "codeword" deals going on. I filled several runs of FF, Alpha Flight, Excalibur, and a few others for dirt cheap over the last few years. I went on the site to check some stuff a week or so ago and the pricing was so far off the rails it wouldn't even make sense with a 75% off codeword sale. Unfortunate, as I used to order a bit from MH back in the 90s and early 00s. MCS has kinda been my go-to for back issues now if I can't find what I'm looking for locally. ttfitz and Hudson

Unfortunate, as I used to order a bit from MH back in the 90s and early 00s. When I stopped caring for MCS as a dealer, I went back to Mile High to check it out. I also used to order from them "back-in-the-day," but eventually stopped due to VERY inconsistent grading (the last straw being an issue of Swamp Thing sold as Near Mint - even with the NM sticker on the bag - that looked like it had been dropped in a puddle). Sadly, I can confirm that what mec3437 said is not in any way an exaggeration - even with 75% off, most common, filler issues would still be triple FMV, if not more. I don't know how Chuck can stay in business with the prices for even the most banal issues being sky-high. Hudson
TheOldCollector
The only time I tried to order from Mile High the website said the book was in stock and I placed and paid for the order only for them to never place it. I emailed them after a while to ask about my order and they said they no longer had the book. I thought it was weird that I had to reach out to them about the order. If it was out of stock I would've thought they would've contacted me first. Never tried ordering since. Every time I do look them up their prices seem way above FMV. Motor City Rob
I've never ordered from them online. Just looking at their ebay feedback, it seems like a headache at best. That being said, I would still love to visit the store one day. Bucket list. ttfitz
Digweedrocks
Back in early '00s when they were buying up all the imploded LCS stock it had enough excellent deals to offset some of the inconsistent grading. Who else would sell you 10 copies of G.I. Joe #2 for 25% of FMV with the right codeword sale(even if 4 of them were 2nd Prints it was still an great deal)?. Alot of this stuff was a outstanding deal if it happened to be restocked just in time one of their 80% sales. Unread white page VF- copies of random silver age like Nick Fury 16 for $5? Not exactly an investment play but a very nice find for an excellently inked Kirby book. Edited July 10, 2021 by Digweedrocks
Popular Post Hudson
I received an email from Chuck yesterday. In part it said..... "The good news is that I am unearthing an abundance of issues that I purchased during my West Coast buying trip that are filling key gaps in our website offerings. To provide but one example, I unearthed a near-complete run of the Star Wars (1977) series yesterday afternoon. We already had individual copies of most of these issues in stock, but those newly-found treasures will help us to fill in many gaps in the spread of grades that we can offer you. That makes a big difference to me, as my goal is not only to have every comic book printed since 1956 in stock, but also to offer you as broad of a range of price options as possible. In that regard, excellent progress was made." I found this interting in many ways. 1) I never really thought of MH as the place to go for books from 1956. I concede that they have a great selection of modern books, however, I had typically found their SA and GA selection, shall we say "lacking". IMO. 2) He states that he wants to "offer you as broad a range of price options as possible". This may be true IF by broad range you simply mean a wide price difference between high and low grades EVEN IF ALL THOSE PRICES ARE INSANELY HIGH at ANY grade. So, I went to the MH web site to see about both the selection and pricing of books from 1956. As many of you know, I am a big fan of Action Comics and so I decided to look at Action Comics from 1956 (issues 212 - 223). To my great surprise, Chuck actually had seven (7) of these twelve (12) books in stock. That is pretty good. IMO. I then went to MCS and found them to have eleven (11) of these twelve (12) books in stock. @mycomicshop. Much better, but still I will give Chuck credit for having a decent selection of 1956 Action Comics. Now to pricing. Issue 212 - MH - Not in Stock - MCS - 1 copy in CGC 3.0 for $140 Issue 213 - MH - 1 copy in G for $1,407 (I almost fell out of my chair when I saw this) - MCS - 1 copy in CGC 4.0 for $150 Issue 214 - MH - 1 copy in VG for $3,072 (OK, now we really are getting ridiculous) - MCS - 3 copies from Poor to VG/FN from $13.50 to $190 Issue 215 - MH - Not in Stock - MCS - 3 copies for immediate sale Issue 216 - MH - Not in Stock - MCS - Not in Stock Issue 217 - MH - Not is Stock - MCS - 2 copies Issue 218 - MH - 1 copy in Fair - $705 - MCS 2 copies Fair - $52 and CGC 3.0 for $125 Issue 219 - MH 1 copy in Fair - $705 - MCS - 3 copies from $44 - $275 (the $275 is for a CGC 6.0) Issue 220 - MH - 1 copy in Good - $1,407 - MCS - 3 copies from $44 - $135 Issue 221 - MH - 1 copy in Good for $1,155 - MCS - 3 copies from $13 - $250 Issue 222 - MH - Not in Stock - MCS - 2 copies from $80 - $225 Issue 223 - MH - 1 copy in Fair fo $578 - MCS - 3 copies in 3.5 for $99.95 - $125 SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU CAN'T MAKE THIS STUFF UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Perhaps Chuck's plan to have every book from 1956 on up is to price them SO HIGH (MILE HIGH) that no one can afford them. That way they will stay in stock. Edited July 13, 2021 by Hudson TheOldCollector, vheflin, Ken Aldred and 5 others 1 1
TheOldCollector
I just don't get it? I don't understand the business model. I just went on there this morning just to see what the current volume ASM back issues were listed for so I could fill some holes in my collection and they are through the roof I got 30 issues from Midtown today for $80 they would have been over $1000 or more over at Mile High's site. Surely nobody is actually buying books from their site? What is the purpose of their website if not to sell books? Everything I look up on it is way over priced and not by a little but by a ton. Popular Post mycomicshop
Of the 12 issues Action #212-223 @Hudson reviewed, as you said the only one we don't currently have in stock is #216. We've sold two copies of #216 in the past year, one in May and one last October. So even the issues we don't have in stock at any specific time, if it's on your want list there's a good chance it'll come through sooner or later if you're patient. We've sold multiple copies of all 12 issues you mentioned in the past year, so not only do we have them in stock, we're also managing to sell them. And then the hard part for every comic dealer--replacing sold inventory. Vince G, ADAMANTIUM, musicmeta and 10 others
Falcon760
I think they don't upgrade their website for fear of being called out for their grades or their stock. It'd be much easier for a regular person to see or find comics with an upgraded website instead of the &&&&$$&$ one they have that's still stuck in the 90s. But you order from them anyway because they're the best and they have so much to choose from, except when you actually get it, you realize the comics aren't "Near Mint" and the prices are inflated to compensate for their "coupons". These "Near Mint" comics have stains and pieces coming off of them, so you get what you paid for. I will never, EVER shop here again and I will never, ever support this business ever again. I thought the same thing and started laughing as soon as I read his email. However....to be fair......these comics are not provided free to the retailers. They're meant as an incentive to make people aware of their local store(s) and get them in the door, in the hopes of generating future business (whether that works or not is a different story). If Chuck provided a complete set for free through his website, nobody would have an incentive to visit a comic store in their area. They could just sit on their couch and order the set for free without leaving their house. Based on Chuck's emails....he's providing a few different ways to get the FCBD books (some free and some not) Visit the Mile High Comics store and 3 FCBD books per customer will be free Order through the Mile High website and you can choose 1 FCBD book for free with each $10 spent. Order the entire set of FCBD books through the Mile High website for $100 But it's still sounds funny to buy the free books for $100.
