I pulled a handful of comics out of a box for some light reading this afternoon and puzzled why comics with a publication date of August and September 1976 have such a variety of cover price logo/heading layouts. I haven't yet (can't be bothered to) checked EVERY comic Marvel issued that month for further variations.

No doubt @Get Marwood & I will tell me he has analysed all this in detail on page umpty thrumpty of this thread but there are 118 pages now to check through...

I'm just pleased to have found a whole box of mid 1970s comics purchased then and stored since. Were there were any "key" (in CGC parlance)  issues then that I should be looking out for??

I'm only seeing two layout versions in the examples Robot - price squares and then price circles that move about a bit along the masthead.

The pence copies are only following the US formats anyway, so whatever it is, it's a US thing, not a pence thing.

I like that enquiring mind of yours though.

And I think Master of Kung Fu #43 is the first appearance of the 'moving about' price circle?

Our HTD5 masthead looks different to the other examples above.

Indeed it does. Finding their feet I would imagine, before settling on a more consistent UKPV masthead layout.

I just saw a UK TOS 40 for sale in the sales section of the boards if anyone's interested.

Appreciate the shoutout! Only UK copy I have, got it in a trade after I upgraded my X-men 12 from a 3.0 to a 6.0…X-men and Punisher books being my primary focus I didn’t have much need. Always open for trades on this book to anyone interested as well!

My AF15. Currently in dry dock @Hero Restoration for tape removal and a thorough cleaning. Hope to have her home soon.... Great to see such a healthy thread on these Pence variants. These books are so cool and super scarce.

The stamp says "this book is exchangeable".  What would you like to exchange it for?  :baiting:

Hah! I’ve seen the same stamp on several other pence books. Aparantly you used to be able to trade them in. Presumably for the newer issue??? Anyone “in the know” out there please chime in.

Lots of bookshops or stalls would do that, 3 old for 1 out 2 for 1.

It was a bit before my time to be honest but my dad did this a lot in Middlesbrough and Leeds in the 60s and 70s. He said that was how me kept reading in the early 80s when my parents had no money.

Also explains why there were much less DC in the collection from that period 😂 he cashed them in for marvel he once told me.

I saw this one on ebay and it made me wonder..... how many UK variants have been marked up to look like US copies?

This one is a particularly bad job.
