it might just cloud the mystery more

That's what some of us here live for. Nice bit of research, BTW.

Also, look closely at this -

I know this has been pointed out somewhere previous in the depths of this thread. Just thought while we were on the subject...

Just a bump for market info.  A Journey into Mystery #83 CGC 3.5 OW/W UKPV sold for $13995 on 11/22/21, which was strong compared to the last three sales of JIM 83 cents  in 3.5 for $10800 on 8/15/21, $13767 on 9/29/21, and $13250 on 1/3/22.  There are only 28 blue JIM83 UKPVs (vs 1601 blue cents).

Interesting. From a pricing perspective, what does everyone think the premium of a UKPV should be?

UKPV books should be priced at a premium (~100%?) vs cents copies, similar to how US price variants (ie. 30c vs 35c) are treated. I think it is reasonable given the scarcity of these books especially in high grade keys.

That would be most rational!  Even the treatment of the newsstand versions (the ones that are in fact relatively scarce) suggest as much.  But for now, it's a wait and see game.  At least we can have some fun tracking interesting sales or trends.

Congrats on the win and the grade. I was out on this book very early on, but still managed to score some others. Some of the books I got in the Penman Collection were in great condition and I'm selecting my best CGC submissions. Will post some examples images shortly.

Following up on this post with a selection of Penman Collection books submitted to CGC that I've posted on the Hey buddy, can you spare a grade? part of the forum. I've been so impressed with the books from this collection thus far. Picked up some more UK Pence variants from recent Excalibur Auction as well today.

23 of the available 27 UKPV attached.

Issues 13, 25, 34 and 35 are AWOL, their places having been taken by cents impostors.

Just discovered, languishing unsuspected in my spares, a copy of TOS 13, with the all-important 9d cover price, so I can call off the hunt for that one, leaving me with 3 to get the full set of pre-hero Suspense.

This copy is no beauty, it sits there rather shamefacedly along its transatlantic counterpart, but it will have to do until I get a chance to upgrade.

Why does it not have the Miller 6d stamp on the cover?

There are copies with it out there Albert. Len was a bit hit and miss with his stamps.

I snagged my eighth Gunsmoke Western #58 recently, as it had one of the nicer stamp placements that I had seen (the cover is too busy for a clean shot, alas)

Here we go, one with, one without:

Marwood has condemned us to paying twice as much for our future UKPV acquisitions.

I think he should set up a compensation fund to reimburse us.

Can I pay you in Tower Comics?

Half a pint of mild next time you pass t'Rovers would be worth a little more, i think.

You could use the Tower as a beer mat. After you've read it, I mean.

Or maybe before.

Hey, Tower Comics are great reading, even if they're not particularly valuable.  Or at least have some beautiful art.

Well, some of them, at least... I only have one issue of Tippy Teen and no real desire for more.

And I suppose "Fight the Enemy" remains one of the dumbest names for a book ever... who else would you fight?  What else do you do with an enemy?

Tell you what, if we ever meet up I'll bring something we can use as beer mats.

(Seriously, though, I love Thunder Agents and Undersea Agent.  Even if Undersea Agent does set a record for Gil Kane "up the nose" angles.)
