Spotted this on e-Bay UK this morning...

Again, not on the missing list, but another one I hardly ever see, cents or pence. I notice it's the same seller as the JIM #71.

The CGC census shows only 1 that has been graded.   Are these really that rare?  Or no one slabs these?

"addictive", I like that.  I find that whenever I see a pence copy my heart starts racing a little bit.  It's the same as when I spot "price variants" of Marvel Bronze that the seller didn't spot.

So, I noticed that the CGC census for FF 4 pence has only 1 copy listed, but when I checked GPA data they show sales of 4 copies in varying grades.  So the Census has not been updated I guess.  Still, FF 4 is a pretty rare Pence to find.  I'm really happy to have this one.

I also love it when sellers list them as 'reprints'. 

Had a quick look through the Census. AF15 has 2962 cents copies versus 48 pence, but the 1962 Hulk series is a better example of the randomness of the pence issues. It is one of the very few (if not only) Silver Age Marvel series with a pence variant for every issue. #1 has 1541 cents versus 39 pence, #2: 943/6, #3: 737/0, #4: 863/9, #5: 773/0 &#6: 874/0. No order or predictability about it at all.

Lets take a closer look at your two finds 

 

We all expected that JIM #70 existed, hence it's appearance on the 'missing list', the list of books that we believe should, or could, have a pence copy. I've added your copy to the files...

As rakehall said, take a look and see if you have any others - 61, 64 and 65 are all missing in action. They may not exist at all of course - see the three titles where I've marked gaps in yellow? The pattern suggests they all may not have been produced. Or they may!

 

Now, my favourite of your two books by a county mile is our Patsy 

  

Aint that great! A thousand times I've searched that title!

I had this title down on my 'no pence titles exist' list and this is the first time I've had to correct that as a result of a find in many years. Here is Patsy on the chart:

 

If you look at the other entries, I always thought that Patsy & Hedy was the only title to get the pence treatment of this genre (funny girl / romance) until I found My Girl Pearl #7. Your find gives us hope that pence copies may indeed exist for the other titles. 

I've said this before, but I don't think people realise quite how scarce some of the early pence books are - especially for the non-super hero titles. I have never seen either of your two books once in ten years. So again, well done for posting them and please, check the list's I'm about to post of what does / does not exist and let me know if you have any others.

Thanks for checking. I have PW 89 as an ongoing ebay search and have done for years. Flipping annoying when they don't show up! Are you a Marvel only man or could there be pence books hiding in your stash for DC, Charlton, Archie, Dell, Gold Key, King....? (we have threads here on all)

The confirmed pence list is a great piece of work, I had assumed that common titles like FF or Spider-man had pence copies of all distributed issues. No work for me today so just spent morning comparing pence list to my comics and they match almost exactly, as I collected most of my silver age collection in UK pre-internet I have a lot of pence issues but my pence/cents list mirrors Marwood's. I noticed a number of issues you list as no pence copies Duncan McAlpine's guides show as scarce or uncommon in UK, my copies of several of these are unstamped cents copies making me wonder whether there are more UK non-distributed issues than previous guides have suggested. I could only find one pence issue in my collection your list isn't showing, I can't believe its not common in UK so probably glitch in your list. (What a bargain, Barry Windsor-Smith double sized issue for 6p!)
