Did you find me any NM pence copies?

Negative.

Was hoping for a Heston or two to bolster the numbers, but it was not to be. Still a thrill though, rifling through boxes in a shop you've not been to before.

And this pub:

We were hoping our old friend @Cushing Fan could tell us the name of the actor here. We know who he is of course, but do you think his name would come to us?

Seems he was a rather good painter too. Talented fellow, all round.20180130_145221.thumb.jpg.7035ca51f29f8547c20a6e974af7a1c2.jpg

>>Fantastic photos Marwood & I! I remember when that theater was converted into the pub - the company had asked Peter Cushing's secretary and executor of his estate, Joyce Broughton, for her approval before the construction began (Lucasfilm also got her permission to create the CGI Grand Moff Tarkin).

The actor pictured on the wall is Robert Urqehart from The Curse of Frankenstein.

Cushing studied watercolour painting under Edward Seago. He even had a public artshow back in the late 1950s (I was lucky enough to purchase one of Cushing's watercolours from Joyce).

Enjoy the rest of your trip and try to stop by Cushing's View or his former home at 3 Seaway Cottages if you get the chance (there is now a blue round plaque on his home to signify it.

That was him! Couldn't place the name. Cheers for the nice comments. I'll have to hunt the plaque down next time :)

Good write up,  Marwood & I. You weren't too far from my haunts in exploring Whitstabubble. It's been years since I've been there but now I know there's a comic book shop (neat Dalek) I'll have to pay it a visit.

Its a good looking shop Harry. Bit old fashioned which I like. A few short boxes of tatty Marvels so worth a visit (thumbsu

A topical pence post this one, given the forthcoming film - the Two-Gun Kid battles the Black Panthers prototype!

I picked it up at the fair on Sunday, as I didn't have a decent image for the file. Considering the printed 10d price, you'd think Thorpe & Porter would have spared us their stamp of approval wouldn't you....9_9

Aha I've just arrived on this thread and with being a sort of amateur detective and a fan of Sherlock Holmes, I've came across a problem with the theories about who printed first. Technically the poster who mentioned the faint 12c under the 9D is right it is Chuck from Mile high I object too. My reason is simple if it was a case of just replacing the  cent plate, then HOW was the English company's information printed on both the inside cover and Splash pages.  The game is afoot or as I like to say at least eleven and half inches?  After reading all 15 pages I never saw it mentioned, that includes the Postman Pat joke: the right answer to that one is PRE-man Pat?  Great thread.

I think you deserve an award for reading the whole thread in one go TVH! Maybe a shirt - "I read all Marwoods threads, and all I got was this lousy headache shirt"

Seriously, I appreciate the dedication :headbang:

Have a read of these threads too - especially this one, which touches on the enigma that is cents copies with Thorpe & Porter indicias (plus it has a Ditko letter in it) - links in to the who printed what first debate:

All my threads seen to interlink, so you have to do them all to get the full picture

Just wait until Heston lands...Image result for charlton heston gif damn you all

P.S. Pre-man Pat? Sounds like a sandwich spread (thumbsu

Alas, no JollyC

Firstly,  this is a DC book, and this is the Marvel pence thread. Secondly,  every copy of the book has dual cents / pence pricing, so it's not a price variant.  Just a jolly nice comic :)

Stand by your beds, citizens of Planet 9d!

No, calm down, it's not one of the missing list, just - I say 'just' - a pence rated KKO. Number 98 in fact. So why post this? Well, it's the only one I've ever seen in person. A bizarrely rare book. My only previous sighting was from, of all places, an old Heritage auction listing.

It makes you wonder how many on the missing list will turn up. This exists - and it's the only one I've seen to touch in all my years of looking. So maybe there's hope for his missing comrades yet.

Still on 3,007 then.

Nice Kirby cover by the way. He kind of looks like he's turning into the Hulk a bit doesn't he? Or turning back, given the state of his shirt :)

Spoiler

Hulk like Marwoods pence thread. Marwoods pence thread is cool, if sometimes twee. But if Marwood starts to make unfounded references to Hulk, saying Hulk looks like puny KKO, then Hulk will smash!  Hulk.gif.147fa7abec8d03d32d838a2521131878.gif

Here's a question for you, other than keys do you think that it would be cheaper to collect U.K Silver age runs? I'm feeling like it would be nice to start collecting the Astonish Suspense Strange lines as I've always loved their covers.

That's a tough one TVH. Let me think about it and tell you tomorrow. Shetland's on in a minute and it's my turn to make the tea.
