Why has AF15 exploded in value?

Since this thread is solely about AF 15, I kept it that way.  We are pretty much in all time highs with practically every SA, BA, and some (maybe? I don't keep much track of it) modern key books.  So, if one were to add books such as XM 1, GSX 1, MS 5, Ultimate Fallout 4 just to name a few than they're basically paying current top of the market.  Who knows how much longer this will continue, it's all a guessing game at this point.  Will prices continue to soar or will it get a correction?  I'm betting on the latter as with anything that has soared at huge increases in %'s, more than likely, that item will surely go through a dip buy.  Not a bubble pop crash type is what I'm predicting.

Right when I saw the exponential increase in sale prices happening first with X-Men 1 then moved on to FF 1, 5, 48 and DD 1 earlier this year, I knew I had to jump in quickly and buy some SA key books before it moves onto those books I was looking at.  At that time AF 15 was still "quiet" as well as Hulk 1, TOS 39, and JIM 83.  I already have an AF 15 so I managed to buy a Hulk 1 and TOS 39.  I was so close to adding a JIM 83 but I ran out of spending money to buy doh! .  Sure enough within a month's time of me adding those books, prices climbed.

I didn't have the money at the time to pull the trigger on a Hulk 1, so ended up buying an XM 1 and some other bronze keys before the massive run-up.  It will be interesting to see if we see a general lack of availability or just flat prices.

Window of Opportunity is Quickly Closing...

Correct me if you think I'm wrong, but in this crazy comic market there's only a couple of early Marvel Silver Age "MAJOR KEY / BLUE CHIP" books available in CGC 6.0 or better condition that investors / collectors can still procure for under $10K.

Question...Are the Certified Early Marvel Silver Age "Major Key / Blue Chip" Books Listed Below Still Available for Under $10K???

- Fantastic Four #1 in CGC 6.0 (Nov. 1961 ; 10 Cent Cover ; No Way!!!)
- Tales to Astonish #27 in CGC 6.0 (Jan. 1962 ; 10 Cent Cover ; Yes - Still Available!!!)
- Incredible Hulk #1 in CGC 6.0 (May 1962 ; No Way!!!)
- Fantastic Four #4 in CGC 6.0 (May 1962 ; Not Any More!!!)
- Fantastic Four #5 in CGC 6.0 (July 1962 ; No Way!!!)
- Amazing Fantasy #15 in CGC 6.0 (Aug. 1962 ; No Way!!!)
- Journey into Mystery #83 in CGC 6.0 (Aug. 1962 ; No Way!!!)
- Tales of Suspense #39 in CGC 6.0 (March 1963 ; No Way!!!)
- Amazing Spider-Man #1 in CGC 6.0 (March 1963 ; No Way!!!)
- Strange Tales #110 in CGC 6.0 (July 1963 ; Not Any More!!!)
- X-Men #1 in CGC 6.0 (Sept. 1963 ; No Way!!!)
- Avengers #1 in CGC 6.0 (Sept. 1963 ; Not Any More!!!)
- Avengers #4 in CGC 6.0 (March 1964 ; Yes - Still Available!!!)
- Daredevil #1 in CGC 6.0 (April 1964 ; Not Any More!!!)

Thus, the only (2) books still available is Tales to Astonish #27 and Avengers #4 for under $10K in CGC 6.0 condition.   Now, I own both of these puppies.  Nevertheless, if I had to pick from these (2) books, I would pick / buy Tales to Astonish #27 over Avengers #4 ANYDAY...ANYDAY...of the year.

My point...The window of opportunity is quickly closing on being able to procure early Silver Age "Marvel Key / Blue Chip" books in solid mid-grade (CGC 6.0) condition for under $10K.  If I had $10K that I wanted to park in a early Silver Age "Marvel Key / Blue Chip" book which has NOT yet gone ballistic, Tales to Astonish #27 would definitely be on my radar screen.

Heck, I'll make a prediction.  Since a rising tide lifts all boats, by the end of this year (2021) NONE...NONE...of these early Silver Age "Marvel Key / Blue Chip" books that I have listed above will be available to buy for under $10K in CGC 6.0 or better condition.

There's also an abundance amount of these so called hot key books up for sale in every venue, multiple upon multiples of copies to choose from.  Why?  Because it's also a good time to cash out now. If you can make a 100% and up profit in only a few months, why not lol.

Where’s @Glassman10?  I haven’t seen him post in some time.

Glassman had his day in the sun! He has an amazing story and he cashed in when the market was booming. He put the money towards improving life for him and his family.

Of course, with enough time, prices would move higher, but his story always filled me with hope that those gems are still sitting in closets and attics (and buses) somewhere!

I am still about but not here frequently. After selling my collection I am spending more time on the grading board. I don't sense the price of a mid grade AF15 is really moving much from when I sold mine but I don't look all that hard. My only remaining books are JIM and Thor with a smattering of Dr Strange. None worth all that much.   But I will tell a new hard to believe story:

A lifetime friend of mine passed away last year and the property was to be sold. He was a very wealthy man and quite the collector of many things. Much was auctioned yet it still left enough detritus to fill 3 30 yard dumpsters. The pressure was on to get all of his unwanted stuff gone before  closure on the house was to take place. Helping out was overwhelming. Gradually, no one was looking in the boxes anymore as the clock ran. It was truly day after day. The pickers had been here and go tnamy things but still, the boxes in the barn. So, as dumpster three was filling up, my frined's son was bringing out box after box and there was one wrapped in twine with a small "save" written on it.  So the son decides maybe open it?

Inside the box were seven cigar boxes. On opening the first box, what pops out but a pre-Columbian artifact made of solid gold.  There were seven cigar boxes and each had a figurine. The total amount of 24ct gold in the seven?  Seven pounds.  It all went off to an auction house . That's a lot of gold and it beats the snot out of my story of finding the AF15 in the school bus.  Apparently, my friend was known as a source for an easy check for stuff of this nature, but, how do you forget about seven pounds of gold. It left us all wondering what we might have missed.  No AF15's though.

Really and truly.

That's a great story, but I have to say -- unless he left no one behind that he loves, he did his heirs a serious disservice by not maintaining an inventory and educating them on the value of his collection, the highest-value items in that collection, and how they might go about liquidating it if and when they choose to do so.

Oh, there was plenty left for the family and generous donations to major charitable groups.  I sort of hate to say this,

but he forgot it was there.

That's hard to imagine I know, but it was true.  It would have made a splash on American Pickers I suppose.

In case anyone is curious, 7 pounds or 112 ounces @ $1768 per ounce today's price = $1,944,800.

Even in our currently hyper inflated world, that's a lot of money!

One of the things I did wind up with from that were all the Punch magazines cartoons from the late30's- early 40's.  Not a single copy of AC1 one though.

any porn? I always found as a kid when I stumbled into an old house in the woods, there was always tattered porn mags around.

No, but it sounds you were motivated by stuff that was different than I looked for.  I mean, Porn on a school bus?

Also, I think the ccmma is in the wrong place in the evaluation of the gold, but still a lot of money.

Also, keep in mind, when I sold the AF15, I gave away a copy of Avengers 4 since it had a tear in the cover I never did like Vibranium...

I personally have carried numerous articles of porn onto a school bus. Regardless, back to AF15. Nice to see you again, Mr. Glassman.
