Boy you are right about that lol. I still do and at the rate I get out, I'll have my detector paid for -  in a few years after I have passed this earth. (I've never found my pot of gold yet.)

As for collecting stuff, lets see, my main three c's (hence my online name) are comics, coins and cars, although I have a few, I have not purchased much in any of my hobbies in recent years. I collect and still have my fossils, stamps, pencils, sci-fi books, marbles, board games, and a few other things I cannot recall at the moment. I collect too many things. I really need to concentrate on just a hobby (or three).

I have a pretty good collection of Life magazines from the first issue on too. These are great windows in to history and the ads alone are worth the price of admission.

Having the likes of Monroe, Hepburn and Kelly on their covers doesn't hurt either.

But what's really cool is seeing history as it was made like this issue which first featured a photo that became slightly famous later. At the time, who knew?

Great choice. I like Life as well as the Saturday Evening Post, Collier's, Look, etc. The Post probably has the best covers, but as you alluded, Life's photojournalism cannot be matched.

What's special about the above issue? I know there are many sleepers, like the Buddha cover with the James Dean spread...

This is a winner for sure! I also like a lot of the man-versus-nature ones you posted. I have a smattering with attacking bats, bears, tigers, fish, snakes, and even rhinos:
