Aaaaaaaand I ordered them.

It's near-certain that I will enjoy 7 of them, but Lost Girls seems to be quite polarizing. Has anyone read that title?

Looking at Moore's notable works, I opted to pass on Halo Jones, and Marvelman. They don't seem interesting/different enough for me. Same goes for Tomorrow Stories, and Top 10.

I am relatively interested in Tom Strong, but there doesn't seem to be a great format to collect it. Maybe I'll go for the single issues on that one.

Lost Girls is basically fan-fiction erotica  Consider it to be "the thinking person's pornography", featuring lovely artwork by Melinda Gebbie. It's an interesting and provocative exercise, but and nicely done, but not one of Moore's better stories, really. I had a really nice signed hardcover slipcased set from a few years ago. Sold it when prices went up, and don't really miss it.

Halo Jones is terrific. The America's Best Comics stuff is all pretty fun, including Top 10 and Tom Strong. Nothing groundbreaking, more genre exercise work (superhero police stories, pulp hero adventure stories), but still a lot of fun that goes down easily. Of the ABC stuff, Promethea was definitely the real winner.

For less-loved Moore, I've always recommended his run on WildCATS, which came during the lowest point of his career. I found it surprisingly enjoyable at the time, though I haven't read it for 20 years or so.

I got my copies of Ultimate Spider-Man and Book of Magic V2 this week. I think Thor V1 is coming out soon…

Lots of great reprints coming out these days, it is a real avalanche. Thor 1, Dr. Strange 1 & 2 all came out this week, along with UXM 4. I have about 10 books in the mail right now, and every week there's more. February and March are also packed. The shipping/supply chain logjam is really doing a number on my wallet.

Picked up a copy of Batman Golden Age Omnibus #6 last week for a pretty penny, and saw a #7 was listed at auction on eBay.  I watched it, fully expecting to win it.  Paid $265 for the #6, and figured I'd have to pay more for the #7.  As the auction was ending, I was putting in my snipe, and set it at $550, assuming I'd win it somewhere around $350-$400, but wanted to make sure I got it.  Well, when the bidding went up to $495, the reality set in that I was going to pay $500+ for this book.  And I started to think what comic I could get for $500 instead, so I cancelled my snipe.  It ended at that $495 bid.  Guess I'll have a hole in my set for now...

It is crazy what some of those volumes are hitting these days, but with DC's publishing program being so iffy these days, I guess folks are concerned that they may never see print again. Who knows? DC's collected editions publishing makes about as much sense to me as CGC's quality control...

That's a nice selection! I haven't been pre-ordering recently, as it seems like supplies have steadied a bit since those instant sell-out days of the last couple of years. But I have the following on my calendar "to buy"

Madman Library Vol 2

Wolverine & the X-Men Omnibus 1

Excalibur Omnibus Vol 2

Captain America Lives by Brubaker Omni

FF by Hickman 1

New Mutants Omni Vol 2

What if Omni Vol 2

Captain Britain Omni

Hulk Vol 1 Omni

X-Men Onslaught Omni

Lobster Johnson Omnibus

Absolute Swamp Thing Vol 3

X-Men by Hickman Omni

AND THAT ONLY GETS ME TO THE END OF MARCH! gaaaaaaaah!

Seriously, it's a downpour. And of all of those books, 6 of the 13 are reprints.

April should bring FF by Hickman Vol 2 Omni, Legion of Superheroes Five Years Later Vol 2 Omni, Dazzler MMW Vol 3, The Question Omnibus, and OHMU Update '89 update. After that there are just a few scattered throughout the summer. But man, spring is coming in like a lion and going out like an equally large and angry lion.

I'm also for sure going to get Ultimate SM Vol 2 and Immortal Iron Fist.  If the Phantom Stranger Omni ever comes out I will get that one too.

I actually flipped through Lost Girls yesterday, as I received all of the books except for The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I think that the 1-star reviews are possibly just offended by the subject matter or cartoon-y artwork.

I still have no interest in Halo Jones, but Tom Strong is on my list, and I've actually come around to thinking that Top 10 may be worth a look.

I think that this thread jinxed me, since it was on the topic of trade spines lacking continuity... The Promethea Deluxe #1 & #3 are both DC Black Label, but #2 is DC Vertigo... They have not printed a DC Black Label version for Vol 2.

Usually I think a small font can look quite slick, but they don’t suit Omnis at all. Big letters for the big books all the way.

Just been browsing my old list of ‘wants’ and it’s time to budget for:

Road to No Mans Land omnibus

No Mans Land Vol 1 omnibus

Death and Return of Superman omnibus (new release comes out in May)

Absolute Green Lantern: Sinestro Corps War (going to have to go second hand for this one)

Man, I've waited for years for Marvel to re-release the first Thor omnibus. And now that they finally did, they did that. I expected it, but it still looks like carp. Getting it anyway, of course.

It really is a mixed bag with these books lately.

On one hand, it's great that Marvel is finally reprinting so many books that have been OOP for far too long.

On the other hand, due to the shipping/supply logjam, it feels like every an avalanche of books have been hitting the market for the last month, with more to come in the next few weeks. It's a deluge.

Meanwhile, with some books, there has been a new restoration done, so the artwork has never looked better.

However ,they've printed the books on the thinnest, shoddiest paper imaginable, so the artwork bleeds right through if you're reading at the wrong angle.

And don't even get me started on the decisions to completely alter trade dress/spine font/logos mid way through the runs for some of these books.

It's all a bit much.

That being said, like you, I'm still buying them, because I want to fill in those holes, and even these compromised volumes are better than none at all.

Of course, the other issue is shipping. IST continues to have issues, the most recently being their move to another warehouse. They said it would only put them a week or so behind. Meanwhile, I've got an order I placed a month ago with a title still needing to be picked. In recent weeks, CGN has gotten most of my business. I like IST, and I like their discounts, but CGN has done a much better job of actually getting the books in my hands these days.
