Here are Session 1 and Session 2 results from the Aug/Sept Clink Featured Auction.   A little different format this time as I included comparisons to Last, 90 Day, 12 Mos, and 2021 Avg.   Was really interested in where current sales are relative to 2021.   Was a bit surprised that for a large chunk of books here - the 12 mos average is higher than the 2021 average - would have guessed the opposite.

I also put all issues of same title in same section - but left them in order of sale between Session 1 and Session 2.   So you will see a 9.8, 9.4, 9.2, 9.8, 9.6 sequence for example - the second 9.8 would be from Session 2.     And if you don't think page quality matters - a Werewolf by Night #32 9.4 WP sold for $9,050 in Session 1 while a 9.4 CR/OW sold for $5,090 in Session 2.

Awesome indeed.  Really appreciate your efforts with these.

While there is a lot of red, I am finding (anecdotally) that prices are not dipping as much recently.  The past few Clink auctions I was able to get eight books, all at or below what I was willing to pay.  But in the last Clink auction that just ended there were six books I had my eye on and all six ending up going for more than what I was willing to pay.  And these were not keys (aside from one book), just Silver age filler books on a couple of runs I am trying to finish.

Pretty much identical to what I experienced, only I was chasing random copper age run fillers for the most part. I was cleaning up recently, but in the last two sessions I found the prices were pretty much right at what I considered Fair Market Value, and a couple even higher than eBay results. And I only won ONE book in the session that just ended last week. Will be curious to see how the fall shakes out.

I sell strictly on eBay...and while Summer is always slower, this one was an all-time snail. I expected a correction after unsustainable price skyrocketing in 2020-21 but this has been more dramatic than I anticipated. I only sell relatively affordable but popular keys (average $400 or so, typical highest are in the $2K range) and I put everything with a BIN at or near 90-day GPA, and accept offers. I also make sure my books are priced at or lower than all other copies on eBay in the same grade. I used to get multiple offers on consistently in-demand keys (for example, ASM Annual #1 or Iron Man #55) within 24 hours of listing and they would always sell within a week or 2 at most, but now just crickets for the most part with only a few comical lowball offers. I often have to make 3 or 4 price decreases even on books like that. Many times I'm content to wait and get my (fair) price...but geez. Have had to slow down my buying quite a bit since I strictly use the proceeds from the books I flip to buy more. Come on Fall and Winter! :foryou:

Anyone have any predictions as to when prices will turn mostly green?

Hopefully not before I buy my Avengers 1.  Although I will say Hulk 1 or FF1 in low grade are hardly what I would describe as "bargain prices".  These are the other final two big books on my SA Grail List.  I've missed the boat...

I haven't been tracking Avengers 1, but the other two have bounced around a little bit of late, hard to know exactly what FMV is on either one right now.

Ain't that the truth.

I'm also in line for an Avengers #1, so I hope they hold off for a while!

So y'all are saying that when I part with mine, I should post it here.
I have some extremely costly home repairs about to be started and am considering selling at least a good portion of my complete Avengers Vol. 1 series  :(

The million dollar question....

Someone's collection is a lot bigger than mine.

We need @valiantman to determine the total market cap of comics again (and get harangued in the process.. got to love the boards).    Things overall are still far into positive territory over the last 12months.

The story to take away here, is that the major keys are where you want to spend your money, if you're going to spend big.

This book is a fabulous book, and in amazing book.   But the number of bidders to support bidding beyond $14k wasn't there.   The 2011 sale now looks like some serious FOMO.

if we are going back to 2011 to compare with todays prices for early silver 9.8s, we have to bring the census then and now into consideration.  Back them the frenzy went from 9.4 to 9.6 and ultimately to 9.8s between 2002 to 2010.  A few guys were paying whatever it took for the first 9.6, and them first 9.8 to appear, thinking they would remain Single highest graded.  As more copies appeared, they didn't sell for as much as the first one did.   So, if GPA charts say that these 2 books sell today for the same as a decade ago, it makes sense if the census is now 3 or 5 or 10 9.8s.  If there's still only one top copy and it sells for the same?  that's on the buyer!  he paid way too much.  These are outliers since they aren't keys, valuable only to run builders as was pointed out.

I'm not sure what this indicates, though I've been closely following the MCS weekly auctions for a few months now and have been keeping an eye on raw prices for books I plan to sending in/sell in the near duture.  There has been an average of 20 pages of auctions for items up to the year 2000 (the only filter I use), and this weks auction is only 15 pages...seems quite a dip for a week to week comparison.

I'm still updating CGCEMC.com for individual book "estimated market caps" which are at least $1,000,000+ in total estimated value. It doesn't have a historical feature yet, so I can't easily give the ups and downs over time.

No I don't imagine it is an easy process.  Though in terms of the hobby, with the ebb's and flows across all the ages, it wouldn't be worthwhile doing it on a regular basis.

Thats true, there was such a drive for the 'top graded' book through the early 2,000's, but I wasn't aware it was still going full steam to 2011/2012.   I dropped out in 2008 for pretty much a decade.

Those early days were just crazy.   I bought a Strange Tales #110 in the early 2,000's, and thought it was a low point in my collection, as it was only a 9.0!  I sold it within a year.    Yes, I'd kill to have the book back now :cry::cry:

I know!  I used to wipe my are with 9.0s!  now the prices (and demand) is off the hook!
