Fantastic Four has had some great covers, but not long after issue #100, the covers started getting really busy. No bueno. Only took about a hundred issues before things got back on track. :/

The alternative would be like some moderns as a pinup? At least this has some background, but yes not as imaginative when you use the story board for the cover.

Idk though that one's kind of nice without a square box title around every cornered off piece titling it like an art exhibit of each story. Instead there is actual dialogue.

Those DC were notorious for the art gallery style, cause they had many stories on a single issue?

I guess this is the marvel version of it's around the same era?

Don't get me wrong. I like dialogue and a peek into the story, but these just seem so unnecessarily overloaded with information. It's off-putting to me. I can understand it with books with multiple stories (though the art would probably still bother me), but there's no excuse here.

See, here is one from that era I don't mind. Not too busy. Dynamic. Still don't care for the logo around this time though.

The Human Torch is clearly not getting "crushed" here--he seems to be vaporizing him in some way.  How about "I've SCORCHED the Human Torch."  That's a freebie, Marvel.

Yes, the much-derided cover of Avengers Annual #10. 

Right up there with the ridiculous story.

The only saving grace was the Michael Golden internal art, as Iron Man looked amazing.
