I have given this thread a good cleaning.  If you want to make posts that revolve around political agendas and homophobic comments, I suggest you take them to a different chat forum.  It will not be tolerated here.

Well put, Mike. Hopefully some people actually learn from this experience.

One of the great losses for me in comics is that over the last 30 years, covers slowly became increasingly about some character pose or other.  As a kid growing up in the 70s and 80s, most of the covers had to do with the story inside.  But that's when comics had stories that were worth reading.

I'm not saying that there weren't pose covers back then.  There were.  But they were iconic and well done (think Amazing Spider-man 100).  Today, every artist- from average to talented, just phones in a pose cover.  And I think comics are worse for it.  Feel free to post any that you feel are great non-pose covers from the last 30 years.  I'd love to see them.

Forget comics, I miss all those great news magazine covers of substance from the past…

Fantastic Four has had some great covers, but not long after issue #100, the covers started getting really busy. No bueno. Only took about a hundred issues before things got back on track. :/

The alternative would be like some moderns as a pinup? At least this has some background, but yes not as imaginative when you use the story board for the cover.

Idk though that one's kind of nice without a square box title around every cornered off piece titling it like an art exhibit of each story. Instead there is actual dialogue.

Those DC were notorious for the art gallery style, cause they had many stories on a single issue?

I guess this is the marvel version of it's around the same era?

Don't get me wrong. I like dialogue and a peek into the story, but these just seem so unnecessarily overloaded with information. It's off-putting to me. I can understand it with books with multiple stories (though the art would probably still bother me), but there's no excuse here.

See, here is one from that era I don't mind. Not too busy. Dynamic. Still don't care for the logo around this time though. :)

Ya those splash page or what not types with dialogue seem to be the reigning favorites!

The Human Torch is clearly not getting "crushed" here--he seems to be vaporizing him in some way.  How about "I've SCORCHED the Human Torch."  That's a freebie, Marvel.
