When I was a tot I would sit in front of the console radio and listen to music and programs like Gunsmoke, Fibber Magee and Molly,  and Inner Sanctum.  When we got a 7" B&W TV in the late '40's I could watch Time For Beany on the one channel operating in Los Angeles at the time.  They also showed Flash Gordon Serial segments from the '30's.  Always thought those rocket ships were really cool.

Hate to tell you fifties,  but if you were born in the mid 40's  you are no longer middle aged

I remember catching some of the Flash Gordon serials on Matinee At The Bijou. I would always tune in to PBS to watch. It was pretty cool to have a show in the early ‘80’s that tried to replicate the movie going experience of the 30’s-40’s.

I went to buy the new Hulk, and there was a copy of The Flash stuffed down in the slot, so I bought them both.

I am middle aged, but I have no idea what a chicken box is.

As for the plastic sheet, middle age is 40 to 59, not 70 to 99.

Yep. We would play "hang loose" in the way-back of the station wagon. The goal was to see who got tossed around the most.

True Story - my brother and I used our home's dial phone to call a number in a story in Archie Comics and asked for Archie. This was in the days before you had to dial an area code (there I just dated myself). Turned out it was the number of Al Hartley who happened to live in our area code in New Jersey. He said, "I draw Archie!" He was a pretty nice guy and talked to us for a bit then started to get a little preachy asking us if we believed in Jesus. I think we kind of bailed after that. Imagine that happening today!

As I recall the comic story had a bird in a cage reciting that phone number; wish I could find a copy of it but with so many Archie titles and an unknown issue date it would be like looking for a needle in a haystack!
