Like I said, his life style is not mine nor do I care what others do if it doesn’t hurt anyone. He is a defender of his lifestyle and allows other people that are like him a platform to be welcomed not shunned. I do not understand it but it doesn’t upset me or scare me.

Frankly, I don’t think it does anything to help himself business wise but his choice. If you are uncomfortable, just don’t patronage his store.

When my kids were growing up, I spoke to them frankly and answered their questions. They understood that not every one was like them. They are both very good, tollerent people and I am very proud of them. This is what a good parent does.

Wow, what a haul! I also remember him bringing his first load to a show. The CasualCon in Buena Park. While everyone was fighting over the superhero books, I was quietly piling up Avons, PCH, GGA, and Censhorship books at similar prices from the “other” boxes. I spent every dime I had and even borrowed some money.

I was like nothing I have ever seen. Everyone left their booths and were piled into his booth. There was some minor grumbling about the “over guide” prices. But we had never seen such nice books. The Church collection totally redefined what the term “mint” meant. To this day, the most exciting Con I’ve ever been to!

And, just imagine, these were the books on the floor in the basement. Not the ones in the “closet”…

I submitted them all at one time and provided CGC with strong documentation.  The books also correlate well with Chuck's master list and have the characteristics of Church books from this period.  CGC was a lot smaller back then, and the few graders they had on staff were well-versed in the various pedigrees.  They are absolutely, positively, the Church copies.

There are plenty of good reasons to mock Chuck, but this isn't one of them. Good for him for living his truth. And as has been said, if you don't want you or your family "exposed" to his lifestyle, don't go to his store. Simple, everyone wins! 

It's been at least 10-15 years, maybe more, since I bought anything from MHC. You used to be able to still find some good dollar books on the site, but even those are all gone now. So, I can't support his store, but still have fond memories of those catalogs as a kid, and I say more power to him for doing his thing.

I've got to say, Bettie Pages is a great drag name for a comic aficionado like Chuck. Very witty.

I Googled "The Betty Pages" to find an image of the cover of The Betty Pages #1 so I didn't have to try to find my copy. I think there were eight issues of this fanzine. I assumed this was the origin of the name Chuck's using. As it turns out, there is now a website by that name which comes in as the top result in Google, and the description states "Welcome to The Betty Pages! Cascadia's most inclusive alternative-lifestyle entertainment tabloid. Created in Bellingham, Washington."

If you ever have the opportunity to talk to  Chuck, he is really fun to talk to. Put aside his crazy showmanship and you will find that he is a real lover of the medium and full of knowledge.

I spoke to him one time at SDCC at an after show party about the Church find. He described in great detail “the closet”. How it looked and smelled when they opened the door and how he felt at the moment. He told me than when he was carefully pulling out stacks that the newest stuff was on the top and it got older as he went down. He had NO idea of exactly what he had for weeks until he started sorting them out. At that time, most collectors had no idea of the breadth and depth of the GA medium.

He has got to be the luckiest person in the history of collecting. He knows it and is very grateful. He also knows that if he hadn’t gotton those books out of there, they would have met a sad end. He also believes, the heirs had already thrown away a lot that was stored in stacks on the basement floor.

Got to hand it to him. He took that lucky day and turned it into a wonderful career. He has no regrets as to what these books are worth now.

What exactly do you think happens to children who see men wearing dresses? Because in Shakespeare’s day all the parts were played by males.

Maybe stop insinuating that people who are doing nothing bad are a danger to children. You’re helping to incite violence against them. Be better.

Oh I didn't realize Chuck was just playing a Shakespearian character. Your argument is ridiculous. My opinion is helping to incite violence?... therefor I am not entitled to my opinion and must accept this stuff? Get real. This isn't the place to debate it.

You’re arguing children are in danger from seeing males in dresses. Not even bothering to explain the alleged causality let alone offer evidence. But when I point out the HARMLESS history here — aka actual evidence — you call my argument ridiculous. You don’t even have one. If this isn’t the place to debate it, don’t offer the false proposition in the first place. And maybe at a time when people stupid enough to believe you are targeting drag clubs, have the decency or shame to keep your ignorance to yourself. People DIED in Chuck’s state last month. Get yourself a shred of decency. And whatever your issue is with drag queens, good luck with whatever inner personal discoveries await you if you get yourself some therapy.
