Honestly, some of your responses are coming off snarky.  Almost like an “it is what it is” type attitude.  Just get everyone THEIR property back that wants it, regardless if work has been done.  
 

I’m sure you could’ve shipped that AF 15 out in the time it took you to type up these responses.

If you have signatures for each transaction on one of those contracts...then people must not been reading. I would have walked away with terms like that.

Can you actually produce one of these signed contracts for every late book in your possession? Or are they lost?

These are just swiped from CGC's Service Terms and Conditions.

Apparently his assumption is that if it's good enough for the customers of "great big" CGC, it's more than good enough for poor little old me.

I have sympathy for peoples personal hardships, I've had my share, but telling other concerned board members to "see an optometrist", or inferring that those who are not directly involved mind their business is classless.

This community helped build your business, @Hero Restoration. A little humility and grace would have gone a long way in the beginning.
Now it's going to take a little more.

Wow.  Unbelievable.  Sad and disturbing.  People here trying to help you find a way to get out of this hole and you just insist on digging further?  This post is your end game.  Nobody in their right mind is going to trust you with their property after this post.  The clients not respecting the contract is the problem?  Seriously?  THAT"S NOT IN THE LEAST WHAT THE PROBLEM IS!  If you think that you are properly fulfilling your end of the contract and it will hold up in court, then run with that.  Sounds like that might be what you are banking on anyway.  In my opinion that contract is going to get shredded for non-performance.  The clients should definitely become wolves and they should pounce now.  They should do it quickly and collectively.  This is a crisis situation and those who act quickly in a crisis situation have the best outcomes.  The only thing the clients have done wrong is give too much respect for too long.

Thanks, I was wondering if it was CGC, but I thought maybe their pressing service. I can't imagine wanting to hook up with a new very small business that has those terms.

In the history of the boards in which someone has so egregiously wronged other parties to the tune of thousands of dollars, it has NEVER been a good look to say something for a laugh at the expense of boardies who are out book, money, and time.  NEVER.

Honestly, I'm sympathetic to the health concerns, but your (Hero's) inability to accept blame, and the overall handling of the situation and ensuing comments here has been completely unprofessional.

I recommend you get your life in order and call it a day with this business hobby of yours. 

• Any books that you have not even begun to work on should be returned 
• Any payments you have received for books that you have no worked on should be returned
• If you do not have the money then at least return the books.  They are not yours.

Wow. Quite a read in this thread. I see a lot of assumptions and excuses, but what I haven't seen (sorry if I missed it somewhere in the 12 pages) is what should have been the first statement, something along the lines of, "This is 100% my fault and I want to sincerely apologize to everyone."

Medical emergencies happen and it is extremely unfortunate when they do, but them happening doesn't shift even 1% of the blame or responsibility for resolution to the customers. I hope everyone involved is able to be made whole but that is looking like a low percentage probability at this point. I can only imagine what my state would be if I had major keys gone for years and years without any clear resolution in sight.

How hard is it to pack a book in a box and ship it? It's 20 minutes, tops. I have two kids, a full time job, and I pack and ship 20-30 orders per week. It's not that hard. It's a few hours of time and my turnaround is always under three days. I don't have serious health problems, granted, but we aren't talking about anything other than returning property here.

Hell, there are probably forum members in the area that would help out for free, just to see people get their stuff back. Leverage friends and family for some hours and get this thing wrapped up. Get books out instead of responding to emails or posting on here and ESPECIALLY before taking on more work.
