As a perk for my VIP badge, I was entitled to get a head shot on a 4x6 pre-printed card by Steve. Unlike most folks, I didn’t go for Cap or Wolverine. Nope, I went for the obscure - Sephie and Ilahn from Crossgen’s Meridian.

 

While he was drawing, I cruised his portfolio. I blew right past the $4 Uncanny Inhumans cover of Black Bolt and the other spectacular pieces and went straight to the last page which was one from Meridian. $50 later and I’m quite happy.

I got a nice Willy Pogány pencil drawing, presumably for a Christmas card.

It's underneath a sheet of plastic, which is taped at the edges of the drawing. The drawing itself is clean (the scuffs and blotches are on the plastic), so I guess I'll have to remove the plastic, which is held on by ancient masking tape. My guess is that this is a bit less than a hundred years old.

Just got my first published cover from Keron Grant, I think it's an amazing piece - but I got it for a mere fraction of my max bid, so maybe I'm the only one who truly likes Grant ;-) You can see the piece here:

You're not the only one, although I was surprised too that it went as low as it did. I picked up a Ninjak cover he did for Valiant at ECCC this year. It's also an ink on vellum piece. It's currently at the framer, and like you I'm interested to see how the mounting/framing works out and how well it holds up over time. Guess we'll see!
