About this journal

I recently purchased this Grimm Fairy Tales Presents Wonderland #1 Greg Horn signed cover with a CGC 9.9 grade.  I don't really collect these comics, but it is a beautiful cover and for such a high graded signed comic.  I only paid $105.00 and did not want to pass up the good deal and possible future investment.  I figure I could not go wrong on the purchase and wanted to share it.  Thanks for looking, 109

New Dimension Comics Exclusive

Back in 2004 or around that time period, I purchased the Witchblade #75 variant New Dimension Comics Exclusive with the David Nestler cover.  There were 3 different covers, which included 2 limited edition covers.  One was the Wizard World Philly Cheesecake & Cheesesteak Gold Foil Edition limited to 500 copies and the other was the Silver Foil Edition limited to 99 copies.  Well I had purchased one of each and just recently sent them in to be graded.  I sent all 3 variants in and all came ba

Limited to Only 100 & CGC's New Case

Darkness and Tomb Raider / Witchblade and Tomb Raider / CGC New Case On my last submission of comics to CGC, I submitted 30 comics with 29 of them Witchblade and 1 Darkness & Tomb Raider crossover. Several of the Witchblade comics were also crossovers with Tomb Raider and Darkchylde. I did good this time with 22 returning at 9.8, 5 at 9.6, 2 at 9.4 and 1 at 9.0. Not sure what happened on that last one. I submitted a Witchblade and Tomb Raider Dynamic Forces Red Foil Logo and Red Fo

SMASHCON

Witchblade #178 SMASHCON Edition I have been collecting Witchblade comics since 1995 and have seen a variety of different art styles from cover artists. I'm a big fan of Michael Turner, but I think the Witchblade #178 SmashCon Edition is one my favorite covers. The art is by Carlos Cortez who I have never heard of before. I purchased a couple of these from the online Top Cow Store and I had CGC grade the best one out of the bunch. Top Cow sent me one that was signed by Cortez which was the

Another one of my favorites, such a cool cover. Thanks for looking, 109 To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Comic Book Dealer's Setting the Price?

Are Comic Book Dealer's trying to inflate comic book prices? I search and purchase comics books off ebay all the time. I primarily collect Modern Age Independent type comics and few Marvel and DC comics. The comic books that I collect don't have the demand that Marvel and DC comics have since there is a smaller collective market, which at times makes it easier for me to purchase at a lower cost. Some of the bigger online Comic Companies which sell everything sometimes ask 10 times what ther

Fathom Favorite - Michael Turner

Michael Turner's Fathom #9 I really enjoy Michael Turner's art. He was a great artist and he could draw women in a very sexy, but tactful way. Fathom #9 Holofoil Edition is one of my favorites. Attached is picture of my Fathom #9 Holofoil Edition autographed by Michael Turner. Just wanted to shape. Thank for looking, 109. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. Apparently, this was only limited to 2000 copies. I just wanted share this "Bad A**" cover. Thanks for looking. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. HERO COMICS - J. SCOTT CAMPBELL

"Hero Initiative" Benefit Book Hero Comics 'nn' 2014 IDW Scott Campbell " Hero Initiative" Benefit Book helps support struggling artists and writers working in the comic book industry. I love the J. Scott Campbell covers and this 2014 edition has to have one of the best covers. I try to purchase multiple books for each year they are issued to support the struggling artists and writers, plus the covers are just killer. I don't have all of them yet and I am currently still working on it. I

What's in your Tomb?

Tomb Raider most popular collectibles The Tomb Raider #21 variant comic with Clarence Lansang's cover art is one of the most desirable Tomb Raider comics. It is one of the most tactful and sexy Lara Croft pieces of art. This variant comic is hard to come by and can fetch $30 to $40 or more for a raw copy. Most of these comics for sale on ebay have a much higher asking price, but appear to idle in place. A graded copy can fetch a much higher price, but are very hard to come by. According t

Wizard World Con hates L.A., California?

I miss the WWLA Con I can't remember the last time Wizard World Con came to the Los Angeles area, but I did attend one or two of them in the past. Looking at the Wizard World Con Schedule for 2015 and 2016 it does not appear they will be coming to the Los Angeles or southern California area. They did have the Con in Los Vegas this year and have it scheduled for next year, but still that is still a drive for the southern California collectors, who love to attend the cons. Maybe they believe

Qualified or Universal/Consistency with Graders?

Is it really Qualified or is it Universal?? I recently submitted 2 very rare Tomb raider #46 Wizard World Texas Comic Con comics with the great Michael Turner cover art. This comic was limited to only 100 copies, which were all hand numbered from #1 to #100. I believe there are a few AP (Artist Proofs) out there. These comics are very collectible do to the fact they are very rare and have a beautiful piece of art by Michael Turner. Both of these comic received a CGC Qualified 9.8 grade, wh

Superman #233 & Hulk #181

My first graded Modern Age Comics I attended the Long Beach Comic Con this year and submitted several comics to CGC for grading. In the past I have only submitted Modern Age comics, but for the first time I submitted 2 Bronze Age comics, Incredible Hulk #181 Wolverine and Superman #233. I purchased both several years ago and I paid around $125 for the Hulk #181. I just received both of them back from CGC and it was like being a little kid again opening presents on Christmas. SUPERMAN / BATMAN / SUPERGIRL

SUPERMAN / BATMAN GERMAN STYLE I am a big Superman / Batman collector and fan. I loved Michael Turner's artwork on this series and one of my favorite was the German variant version of Superman / Batman #4 with Supergirl. I purchased this comic several years ago from the online Rupp's Comics and just recently submitted to CGC for grading. This is a very limited comic of only 400. I was very happy to see it came back as a 9.6, but since it was numbered by hand, CGC made it a qualified grade.

Jim Lee's Sketchbook

Grifter and WildC.A.T.S. I'm a fan of Jim Lee's art and comics. I enjoyed the WildC.A.T.S. series and was big fan of Grifter. I got back my copy of Jim Lee's Sketchbook with Grifter on the cover from CGC. It's a very cool cover. I was hoping the comic was a possible 9.9, but it came back as a 9.8. Hopefully, one of these days I will get back a 9.9 or a 10.0. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

WildC.A.T.S. - Travis Charest

This is one of my favorite covers I really enjoyed collecting WildC.A.T.S. comics and thought it contained some of the coolest characters along with the very sexy Voodoo, Zealot and Void. I recently picked up this WildC.A.T.S. #40 with a CGC 9.8 grade with a nice signature from Travis Charest. It is one my favorites and I just wanted to share it. CGC strip it off or keep it on?

Strip label on top should it stay or go? I recently purchased a Witchblade #1 Movie Edition graded with a CGC 9.8. The plastic case at the top was missing the paper label at the top of case. I kind of like it better without the label. It was one of the early graded comics from the old CGC labeling and a lot of those top labels curl up and look terrible. It would be nice if CGC could come up with a better way to affix top paper labels to where they stay in place. I think the only thing the

WITCHBLADE AND DIAMOND DISTRIBUTORS

Do you have a Diamond? Diamond Comic Distributors have been around since about 1982 and I believe they are the primary delivery company for most comic books to retail comic shops. I collect Witchblade comics and years ago I was able to purchase a Witchblade #1 with the Diamond Distributors emblem stamped on it. I would image these were given to retail comic shops for ordering a certain amount of Witchblade #1 comics. Witchblade is the only comic that I have ever seen with Diamond Distributo

OVERPRICED CGC GRADED COMICS

What's the benefit of not selling your overpriced comic? I know the topic of overpriced CGC graded comics on eBay has been discussed on a few different occasions. Some of these sellers ask for an arm and leg for these graded comics that are not worth a quarter of what they are asking. Some of the same comics have been up for sale for past few years. Why would these sellers continue to ask for ridiculous prices for these comic? Sometimes I will find the same comic in the same grade with a m
