NY metro area tough for LCS but still managed to come across a few nice books. ASM 121 and 122 - a lesson in pressing

ASM 121 9.2   ASM 122 6.5   what a little distributor ink won't do...I posted a fresh journal to highlight the topic as some members posted interest in hearing about my pressing experience during my first (4 free) sub.I've owned this set of 121 and 122 since 1989 - i actually bought the 122 first and remember (carefully) reading it once or twice... the 121 i read once. i am in the middle as to wether i regret the fact that i didn't use more scrutiny as a 14 year old when buying these books

4 ASM books I have owned since the mid 80's Joining a club! Results are in for my 4 freebies. it took 2 months but I put them through pressing on the advice of a few guys i talked to at show.I am very happy with the results... i wanted these encapsulated for posterity and protection, don't plan to sell these since i've owned them since mid 80's.ASM #39 CGC 6.5 OW/WHITE - tape on coveri think i knew about the tape but forgot - the book presents well - 6.5 is fine for me - just need to find a 40

Sidebar journal - made a good pass today

took a shot at joining the xmen 94 club today...   sometimes you have to feel good about the purchases you don't maketook a shot at an xmen 94 today but really spent the time to go over the book and keep a count of how many defects i could see and noted the bigger ones (slightly blunted corner vs a corner crease with color break). the book presented decently (despite a miswrap that i could live with at the right price).price quoted put the book in the 8-8.5 range and i just couldnt do it... e

June 14, 2014 - my first comic show in 24 years... Javitz Ctr NYC... first CGC submission

Mining a short box last actively managed in 2002...   first show purchase in 28 years...   first CGC submission...So I dug the remnants of my collection out in early June. What was left after the 2002 sell off was basically my partial run of ASM with copies of 39, 59, 121,122, 136, 252, 298-300 and a run of MCFarlane issues. I also kept my 1-4 of Wolverine (1986).I figured it was time to get into the grading game so I signed up for my CGC membership and made two subs at the June 14 Javitz

June 2014 - Find the box

2003 - brigth idea - sell the bulk of my bronze and copper age collection on this new thing called eBay and keep one short box of ASM gems... queue the regret melody... As a preteen in the mid-80's I collected some back issues but mostly current issues off the rack across X-Men, X-Factor, PPSM, WOSM, ASM, Marvel Tales, Avengers, Captain America, Star Wars and Batman titles.       It was a small collection as as a 11-14 year old I could only afford 10 bucks a week on average. But I had my

My triumphant (and bewildering) return to Comics

Watch as I over pay for raw books, oversubscribe to paid service knowledge bases, oversubmit to CGC, and become totally consumed with acquiring key books while all the while acquiriing everything and anything I come across with zero discretion and reckless abandon... two years into my return to card collecting (a whole other story) I found myself still yearning for an element of my childhood to share with my son - ok, who we kidding?       There were books I couldnt afford as a kid and t
