This is the apology (page 2) I was referring too. I see your point about a few others suggesting that Iconic1s lighten up, but reading his responses, I don't feel that he was overwhelmed; maybe pissed off.... I think he's capable of holding his own...

But.... miraclemet did apologize and was ignored. I went back and reread his so called insult and I don't see it. The "9.8" images are followed with advice suggesting not to buy if concerned (as did many others).... This was followed by the victim name calling and claiming "I obviously know how to make a decision as to whether to buy a book, or not." .... miraclemet did the mature thing.... not so much the Iconic1s

No.... I packaged each set of books separately (one regular and one with pressing) with the appropriate forms and shipped them together in one box. I wrote on the outside of each package that they were separate orders. Arrived and submitted correctly.

It's not a 9.9 world... especially on the internet (or in traffic) where peeps are somewhat anonymous . They'll be varying degrees of interaction that can be construed as offensive, albeit a joke or downright meanness, that we have to put up with as a free society. It's how one reacts that really matters. Ignoring bully's is probably a good strategy. Getting upset and name calling over a tongue-in-cheek joke, as I and others see it, is a waste of energy and takes away some of the fun and camaraderie. I'm not trying to telling you how you should react to comments nor I'm I trying to impress my opinion upon you. I don't want to insult your intelligence... just sharing my thoughts.

The book don't lie... and of course CGC can and does make label errors.... so it makes sense that the label and cert. # would match, tho incorrectly. As for the spine condition, remember that you're looking at a photo of a scan, through two layers of plastic on a computer screen... hard to judge without first-hand eyeballs.

Look below the price.... "IV" = 4 MY COMIC SHOP is a trusted seller. You can go to their website and they'll answer any questions..... if you are interested in this book you can buy off their site as well and save a bit of $$.

True that yellow labels are a trusted source, but it's possible to have an autograph verified by a reparable company, but, unless it's a book, lets say, signed by Mark Twain, it's probably not worth the expense. Stick the Ultimate Fallout in a mylar sleeve with acid free board and you're good to go... that's your autographed copy.

A press will not fix color breaks... can't fix what's not there. Have you checked with the seller to ask if the book had already been pressed? There is a chance that a press may be able to clean up the stress lines, but without seeing the book really can't say if it would help.... I just got a book back, that had been pressed & cleaned, with notes of "very light spine stress lines breaks color" and got a 9.2 ... so notes may not tell the whole story.

Good to know it's only cover signatures that take a hit.... "Better that they don't" ... but you didn't explain why. Who said anything about making more money? A lot of collector's like graded books and would be proud to show off a Jack Kirby signed book.

I own a number of books that I bought new, off the rack, at Golden Apple Comics in Los Angeles that have signatures. These were probably from store signings, which typically were free back in the day, and the artists signed a bunch that were available to customers who missed the event... it was a while ago so not sure if these were in the racks or on the counter. Anyway, from what I'm reading here, these early signatures don't seem to have much value compared to Signature Series books and probably less since CGC introduced the Signature Series. It's ironic that the grade will suffer if one decides to slab an unverified signed book but that's understandable. Too bad CGC doesn't provide a verification service for these early signatures. I posted the Jack Kirby pic on another thread discussing his signature and a member noted that since Kirby died in 1995 and CGC was established in 2000 there are no Yellow labels dedicated to him.... that's just sad.

I have two raw copies of Destroyer Duck 1 with signatures.... bought new in 1982. Would be interested to know where to send for signature verification and whether CGC would accept the verification and crown books with yellow labels?

I wasn't fielding offers... and more points lost with me for not using his words.... may be petty, but if the dude wants a deal on the book maybe the message should less cold and more personalized.

All the "LOL"s makes me think this dude has a shelf full of participation trophies and I'm afraid you might have hurt his feelings.... hopefully he headed straight for his safe place....

Please post their name.... I'm sure I'm not alone in stating that I wouldn't want to do business with this scam artist. Returning goods under threat of legal action doesn't make them any better.

If it ends up in the hands of CGC please share pics and grader notes when you get it back. Results will be educational... and entertaining (in a good way).

Granted, it is an amazing book but $300-$400 may be a bit generous with missing story page. My point was, unless one is flipping the book, is it worth a third party grading and slabbing when grade is pretty obvious. I would much rather get a nice frame and hang it up like a trophy on the wall (and not advertise the grade). Maybe for some a CGC slab is a trophy case.....

If it were me, I'd put it in a nice mylar sleeve and enjoy it just the way it is.... maybe take it out once in a while and thumb through it, since it's your favorite book. The $40 (or so) that you'll spend on slabbing and shipping doesn't make sense to me. A CGC label/grade doesn't add anything to this cool book. ... save the slabbing for an upgrade with a complete book. In my Dad's shop, back in the 70's and 80's, we would tear the covers off of paperbacks that didn't sell to get credit. Nothing at all special about coverless books.

I visited a few comic shops today and was looking around at the modern books... something I rarely do since I'm more interested in earlier books... and noticed a lot of reprints of 80's (and earlier) books. Was wondering if those new to the hobby who would buy and read these facsimiles would then have interest in owning the original, thus increasing the market for the oldies... but goodies?

What would be considered a good price range for NM98 these days?

I use the Gemini Comic Box and also mount the comic(s) to cardboard and then the cardboard to the box... no moving parts. I cut about 1 1/2" off the shorter outer flap (see pic) and can ship your average copper age comic weighing in at 8 oz.... Box costs me about .60 and cardboard .20. Ship for $5.50 (1st class) to cover costs and buyers thrilled with packaging. 5 stars all day.... The U-line S-164 is a bit lighter so easier to keep the weight in check.

Could also explain why 1st class stamp is now .55¢ and climbing.....
