I don't want cgc to fail either, I like the slab and the membership credits are nice .

Please fix this though because we the people not happy lol

CGC can simply give everyone the the same level of QC and Inner-wells that huge submitters or influencer's like Joey receive. No reason this has to continue when the large submitting entities are not and have not been affected - it also proves the issue is known, and a work-around/solution/fix already exists!

Well, not that I think the overlords at CGC are basing any of their decisions on posts from these forums, but I have this stack of books I was seriously thinking about sending in, and now I'm all like, guess I need to just wait and see for a bit....

Axelrod, If you want them pressed by the best, not to mention the most professional, plus evade inner well issues send them to Joey for pressing + submission.

Prices across the board (not just GA) took a huge surge because people during COVID had a lot of extra cash and a need for stay at home entertainment and computer diversions to replace travel etc. That bubble has been correcting for a while. The lesson I take is that for many buyers comics are an outlet for spare cash, not something that they really want to sacrifice their quality of life for. My evidence for the COVID bubble - Heritage auctions of GS X-MEN CGC 9.0:

    9/1/2019 - white - $2,880 (baseline)

    11/16/2020 - white - $3,840 (+33%)

    7/4/2021 - ow/w - $9,600 (+233%)

    7/4/2022 - white - $8,100 (+181%)

    9/5/2023 - ow/w - $6,133 (+112%%)

    7/16/2024 - ow/w - $4,800 (+66%)

If you are a long time holder, the 2019 to 2024 period has been a good one with a 66% appreciation (a nifty 13+% per year).

But, if you bought during COVID from 2021 to 2023, its been a blood bath and the bubble has burst. Why? I think because folks aren't feeling the COVID need to pay.

So, yeah, a recession might well have an effect. But I don't think we're going into a recession. This was a few days of stock drop (mostly for reasons that are identifiable) followed now by gains. And the result of this bump in the road there is going to be an interest rate drop. So I'm not feeling any fear for the economy in the long run. Still, I don't think we'll see another broad comic bubble like happened during COVID. That was insanity.

If accounting for inflation in a generic manner the gap between 2019 and 2024 on that book is less.

It was happening in 2022 as well.

Extending my date for purchasing, unless viewed in hand first, back to Dec 2021 or earlier graded books.

I do expect when I receive my affected books back from CGC to be sickened that they are still concave or worse...

My next overall is to simply drop graded Comics and go full-time buying SGC and PSA slabbed Trading Cards instead. Unless somehow Newport Beach's Comics effort becomes an unlikely success.

I don’t think it’s a poor idea,  but I simply don’t have the bandwidth to provide such a service, and if I did it would have to track financially with what I could make if I devoted that same amount of time to pressing books.

As most of you know I am always happy to help a fellow collector out as long as it doesn’t adversely affect me day to day business dealings.

Thanks for the professional and on the level response...

Please do let us know if you start receiving back books with the issues mentioned in this thread.

Are you saying that Heritage would ruin their worldwide reputation for a few mil?

In Texas seemingly anything goes for an action house. Also read up on Halperin.

BTW even houses such as Southbys are not above board.

Oh if your comment was sarcasm then huge kudos

  8. Perhaps on these reholderings  CGG should use the same process and or inner wells and or level of QC, they apparently supply to their larger submitting entities like Joey.

If huge volume modern submissions from Joey Et Al. have not been affected then clearly no one else's need to be.

I wonder if Joey would consider adding a service for being a middleman for reholders? If those he personally sends back are returned perfectly flat it could very well be a business opportunity at least in short term on higher dollar concaved books.

@joeypost do you think it's an actual opportunity? Or simply a poor idea?

If this was a rare occurrence and a statement was made ; folks could hold off on submitting and save ourselves the headache of having to deal with it after the fact. We also wouldn't need this thread.

I guess it's not a surprise it's come down to this.

They might have also been able to simply keep books in SFG and GEI a bit longer. No fiscal loss, no books damaged, and no harmed reputation as additional TAT complaints get lost in the normal din.

I submitted some books under the Vintage and High Value tiers in early May

Were your High Value's also Vintage, or 1975-present?

If they were Vintage is any one noticing a pattern in which Vintage seems not affected? If that is the case, no pun intended, then the question is what is different in either the process (including machinery) or physical resources/supplies utilized?  Then couple that with large submitter's of 1975-present book, like JoeyPost, not being affected - means the issue does not have to exist  nor is convex-ing or concave-ing even remotely normal, never mind not even being acceptable in any manner.

  11. My friend - and I mean that,  be very proud of your registry sets. They clearly show you love Comic Books and do not treat them as a commodity. It addition to providing images and description for virtually every comic,  you also add images in your set descriptions which is something very have the know how or take the time to do. I wish there were many more in the hobby like you.

Your registry sets seems a very good reflection of the quality of your character. Hold your head up high, both you and your sets deserve it!

My reholder submission has shipped today, and I should receive it Friday. These books were supposed to be pressed and regraded per my correspondence with customer service. Since nobody contacted me about compensation for damages, I am assuming they were put into new holders and retained the same grade. A couple of them had pronounced color-breaking spine ticks so there's no way they should be the same grade now and they were before being placed into the warped inner wells. I will make another update once I have them in hand, but I'm not feeling great about how this was handled.

    Mine now has this status:

    Service = REHOLDER COMIC
    Status = Scheduled for Grading

The books I sent back were Convex-ed but no color breaking ticks.  Books all appeared to me to still be 9.8's, and I'm very strict, yet they are now SFG status. Unless that is normal when doing a ME or Re-holder? I've only done 1 ME in in past so i forget and have never done a prior re-holder in my 24 years of submitting to CGC - wow it's been nearly a quarter century, my first sub was June 2001

@MadGenius my friend, I will report back as well.

There's a seller on eBay that has "Mylar" bags for graded magazines.  I don't know if it's actual Mylar or not, but they are nice and clear, not cloudy like poly bags typically are.

Polypropylene...and that seller knows it! Been going on for years.

I prefer mylar as it does have a bit of inherent UV protection. Currently I use tabloid mylites but there is an extra inch of space on each side which looks kind of bad.

There's boxes and bags for graded magazines and I thought someone mentioned earlier that the PSA slab is closer in size to a CGC magazine slab.  Would the storage products for graded magazines work for PSA comic slabs?

I've never found Mylites proper for CGC Mags, seems not enough demand. I recall BCW may have had polypropolyne  for tem at one time.

Anyone have box reccomedation for CGC mags?

Have I flip flopped on CBCS?

Holders don't fit into existing boxes.

On CBCS you are correct as no reason existed to do so :) Thus my mention of CGC. BTW you were in the majority opinion at the time and there are still some dealers who have not budged. You were smart enough to flip flop early enough to not fall behind. Changing ones mind based on data is a positive thing. Did you interpret it differently?

Holders not fitting into Existing Boxes or being too large for 914M2 legal size Mylites actually is a big deal. Its the type of thing that may prevent folks from even testing PSA out. Time will tell, but as of now seems not to be a smart move
