  1. I've said it here a few times, but chuck is pretty personable in person. He didn't invite me into the VIP area at NYCC to try on ballgowns with him though, so now I'm a little hurt.
  2. Well, it's mostly a debate about whether politics is a smart thing to stick in a comics newsletter...kind of along the lines of why the mods don't want it here. And I would like to congragulate myself on staying out of politics on this thread because usually I can't help myself and the mods say mean things to me. The funny thing is I am pretty middle of the road politically.
  3. I weigh over 300 pounds. By shoving all that food down my throat and watching too much TV I have set a bad example in front of my kids. Chuck? I think Chuck's outfit is really tacky. Bad!
  4. I'm gonnah drive 10 hours up to Toronto to beat you to it! better rush!
  5. Anyway, whatever makes him happy if it doesn't hurt anyone. That's my motto.
  6. Drag Queening is a lot of work. My fiancé (now wife) and I were invited to "Invasion" in Cherry Grove, Fire Island years ago to hang out at a beach house another friend was renting with a bunch of other guys. "Invasion" is a drag queen festival there. Anyway, it was like 98 degrees and you have to take a ferry there and I was on the ferry with about 50 of these poor guys all made up with make up, gowns, hats, etc. and they were practically melting. Drag queening like this does not work in 98 degrees and humidity.
  7. From the current Mile High Comics newsletter: "I just got back from a small celebratory lunch at Hamburger Mary's, our local drag queen restaurant. I was there feeling really happy because 1) I had just been told that I was approved for a $2,200,000.00 refinance of our Jason St. building (which will drop our interest charges by $5,000/mo - woo!), and 2) I was approved for this huge sum of funding with our prospective new bankers being totally aware (as a result of first reviewing my Charles Rozanski Facebook page) that I am both openly gender fluid, and also perform as a drag queen." ---- I really don't think the bankers would care one bit, particularly if the drag Queen work brought in some cashflow.
  8. I am beginning to the New York City might be. Ever since they lightened up on the pot laws nearly every outdoor corner of the city smells like ganga. Not that it didn't permeate the air before, but now it is like all the time. I am walking my kid to school at 7:55 a.m. and I am blasted by a cloud of it and I have no idea where it was coming from. Probably a passing van.
  9. I was more worried about trade wars, etc. Than the bickering over other stuff. Oh well, live and learn. I should be happy I have $ put away at least.
  10. Just remembering this thread and how I mostly got out of the stock market in September 2018 thinking we'd be in for a 30-50% crash. I know we were down at the end of 2018, but I kept on waiting thinking all the madness in Washington would surely tank the market, at which time I would get back in. Meanwhile I lost the opportunity to pick up about 30% on my 401K in 2019. Not going to say how much $ that would have been, but let's say I am depressed. Probably sets my retirement planning back 2-3 years, possibly worse.
  11. Whenever I offer free shipping on a cheaper slab it is always someone in Hawaii or Alaska who buys it.
  12. Cereal boxes work best. But eat the cereal first. And then put a few plastic grocery bags in for padding. Seal it with scotch tape. Ship it media mail. But don't forget to write "Fragile Handle With Care" over Captain Crunch's face.
  13. Those are all easy 3.5s But seriously, did they have to tear off the logo and take a bit out of a corner to get credit for a return?
  14. NYCC and San Diego are each both within a reasonable driving distance of like 50 million people (ok, maybe not Sand Diego unless you include Mexico..). If 15,000 genuine collectors showed up at each I think you can extrapolate that about 5-10% of the collectors within a reasonable distance go to either (maybe 5%) with some others travelling far. So, 400,000-800,000 North American collectors (because they are frozen in their igloos 9 months a year with nothin to do other than play hockey and read comics, a much higher % of Canadians are collectors).
  15. Believe what you want. It's an "experience." I know a lot of people in my non-comic nerd life who go to NYCC every year. Families go, etc. None of them are there to buy comics. Might they buy a TPB or whatever for their kid to read? Sure, maybe. How many of the tables at San Diego are selling comics? 10%? 15%?
  16. How many people attend Baltimore or Charlotte? I think those may have a much higher % of actual collectors.
  17. Oh, I dunno about 40% of SDCC or NYCC being comic collectors at all. I'd think 10-20%, maybe. SDCC is a show business thing with a side gig of comics. NYCC is a fan thing. Yes, many of these people are fans of comic characters, movies, etc... Does not mean they have a closet of short boxes or whatever or even regularly read new comics. With that said I have no idea how many people are reading comic digitally. So, they're not collectors per se. But I am seeing it a lot commuting on the subway and know several guys who read digital comics who never set foot in a comic shop, etc.
  18. Walking Dead hardly went "belly up".. its millionaire creator lost interest in doing the comic. I am just not sure new issue sales tells much of a story. I buy like 5 new comics a year off the rack.
