  1. I think that's a pretty silly price for a late BA book like that. When you're getting to that level, you might as well pursue BP's first appearance in FF. Even the old Jungle Action run is better than the more recent Kirby one.

Except for maybe Allen and Montoya, I've always gotten the impression that these characters were older than Bruce Wayne in the comics.
  3. Alright, I thought about it. It's easy to lean towards Bats 227 and 232, but when I ask myself what books have stuck with me over the years (even when I wasn't collecting), I find myself actually gravitating towards some of the Kaluta books. Here is a prime example. This 8.5 was originally bought as a filler, but it turned out so nice (the scan is crappy), I decided to keep it. Actually looks nicer than some 9.4s I have. Tec' 424 deserves honorable mention as well. Another 8.5 that's so nice, I'm not going to bother upgrading from it. Like many of the Adams covers, I thought these were way ahead of their time, and certainly way ahead of the early BA writing style.
  4. I'm not sure I have a favorite BA cover or issue. To me, all the Bat related books took a sharp turn in direction right after DC stopped printing books in the 100 page format. It was around this time I actually stopped buying Batman regularly as a kid. Even today, that's generally my cutoff when it comes to collecting Bats. There's early BA and there's late BA. I just can't seem to get interested in the later half.

Great. My crappy DVR didn't work tonight. WHY THE HELL DID THEY POSITION THIS SHOW AGAINST MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL, DAMMIT!

Really more interested in episode 4 "Arkham". This should be interesting.

The series is "OK" for me. Hasn't blown me over, but it's not bad either. The blasphemy here is that anything dealing with Batman should not be mediocre it appears. As far as the complaints about Bullock being corrupt and so unlikable here, I believe that's intentional. His story arc as the series progress is supposed to be about redemption and becoming the Bullock we all expect in the comics. He has to start off this way for the series to work, at least for this character any way. As far as the Barbara and Montoya arc goes, that felt a bit forced to me. Not sure if it was really necessary to go this way for the series. Unless of course, they're looking to play the "hot lesbian sex" angle if the ratings start to tank.
  8. Actually, there's *one*. What's the grade on #255? I need an upgrade from mine and the wife hates me right now anyway

Just watched last night's episode. Have to admit, I really liked it. Seems to be picking up steam much faster than I thought it would now that all the intro's have been made. Can't stand the Jada character, but we all know how she'll end up. The whole "penguin eats fish" bit is so predictable, but I can overlook that.
  10. Yeah, there's piece missing from the bottom of the cover, but this is still one of the nicest raw copies I've found ever. Can't complain about the price either. Snapped it up as soon as I saw it.
  11. LCS find. A real shame with the Savage Tales #1. If it wasn't for a small piece of the cover missing from the bottom, this is otherwise a very sharp copy with a strong binding and OW/W pages. Still, at $10, I think it's more than bargain. Certainly an upgrade to my other reader copy.

I walked away from the show feeling very luke warm. It was OK, but nothing really to write home about. They got the look of it right and the casting was great. Didn't get the sense anything was out of place. Just felt like an hour long setup for a larger film. No doubt the series in the long haul is what they're aiming for.
  13. Yeah. Really sharp. You didn't get them off eBay, did you?
  14. Neither. I'm stocking up on canned goods, ammo, and fuel. When that zombie apocalypse arrives, I'll be the one laughing then.
  15. I should also note, there's a beautiful run of Barry Smith Conans over at CL coming up for auction. A very nice #23 and #24 included. Someone is probably letting a collection go.
  16. Man. That is the hottest statue I've seen yet. Of course, my wife would never let me keep it in the house.
  17. I actually had two of the '75 calendars growing up. That's how much I loved it. '76 was OK, but I wasn't to crazy about dressing up all the characters in Revolutionary outfits. Thought was a bit silly, but it was the bicentennial so it was easy to forgive. Don't recall if I picked up the '77 one. Definitely didn't opt for the DC one when it came out.
  18. Some folks seem to want it bad enough though. Auction is already past $1500+. Granted, this is an extreme case, but this is why I generally dislike SS slabs.
  19. Yeah. I've been reading through the run and I've noticed as the series gradually declined in quality over time with the effort just not being the same. One of the things I always loved about SSOC was the painted covers. By the end of series, they were using drawn covers, even for the important final issue. As nice as some of the drawn covers were, they just weren't the same from the days of Boris, N. Adams, Norem, and others.
  20. Anyone catch that final $2200+ winning bid on that Conan 9.6 over at CL? Has this book ever sold for this high in 9.6 before? Hope this is a sign Conan popularity is finally coming back.
  21. Anyone here win that 227 9.8 over at CL? Congrats to the buyer. I thought the final hammer price was a real bargain at just a little over 4k.
  22. Just some really nice mid grade books from a LCS while I was on vacation. Dirt cheap at $5 a piece. Always did love the Marvel mags from the '70s.
  23. I've got a CGC 9.4 W Kull #1 from the Don/Maggie collection. Really nice book.
