Marvel early 2000s printing crease FYI
djzombi replied to djzombi's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
Found the previous thread I was thinking about! -
Hey y'all, I just got a submission of 6 books back, and my estimates were very close to their outcomes, except for one: Book 1 estimate: 9.4; CGC 9.6 Book 2 estimate 9.4; CGC 9.2 Book 3 estimate: 8.0; CGC 8.0 Book 4 estimate: 3.5; CGC 4.5 Book 5 estimate: 9.2; CGC 9.0 Book 6 estimate: 9.2; CGC 7.0 As many of you may know, and I believe this topic was brought up in another thread, Marvel comics from the early 2000s very commonly had a light printing crease that is about 1cm from the spine, that runs parallel to the spine for the length of the book (most of my Morrison New X-Men run has this). I couldn't find the previous thread, but I remember somebody asking how much of a hit book would take for that manufacturer's crease. I would presume it depends on the severity, but still considering it's not an "after-market" flaw, I thought CGC would be lenient. Not so. At least in this case. Grader Notes: Comic Description:Bloodstone 1 12/01 Marvel ComicsGrader Notes:very light fingerprints on cover very light readers crease full left of front cover I found the "light fingerprints" on the right edge of the front cover, but I have a book with similar fingerprints and it graded much higher than this. CGC has mistakenly called the spine printing error a "readers crease." Which it isn't. I've attached scans, and invite input from others that have submitted Marvel books from this period with a similar defect.

Yeah, I've read about the horrible working conditions for Disney's FX departments.

Moderns that are heating up on ebay!
djzombi replied to thirdgreenham's topic in Modern Age Comic Books
"She Bites" was pretty funny (if not really that clever). I'll be picking up #2 to see where the story goes from here -
CGC also needs to have a real-time updated list of credits/debits on our member account page.
-
CGC really, really needs to be more transparent with its invoicing. I would love to hear that there are plans to update the member account page to show a detailed history of credits and debits. This would eliminate the mystery of "was my credit applied? How much of my credit do I have left?" which we hear all the time regarding membership renewal credits.

And Newton Rings thrown in at no extra charge.

In agreement with 8.0 tops. Maybe more of a 7.5.

New Overstreet out today, haven't gotten my copy yet...
djzombi replied to twmjr1's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
I've always found Overstreet helpful as a speedy reference to artists, key books, final issues of a run, and more recently a guide to what the heck volume of a book I have when I pick up , say, a Daredevil #4 that was printed after the year 2000. I usually pick up the Hero Initiative cover to support the charity, but I kind of need that EC cover. I'm torn. I wish I could afford both -

BLACK PANTHER 2 directed by Ryan Coogler (TBD)
djzombi replied to Bosco685's topic in The Movie Forum
I got chills watching this trailer. The sensitivity to Boseman's death, the use of music, the GORGEOUS cinematography... I usually find MCU fare to be mediocre at best, but Black Panther was my #2 favorite of their output, and the new trailer gave me high hopes for the sequel.- 828 replies

How quickly people have forgotten that the 4th wall breaking is canon. See: both of John Byrne's epic runs on her solo series. Her use of it pre-dates Deadpool's transformation to a 4th-wall breaker. For those complaining about too much humor in the MCU, have you seen the new Black Panther trailer? You also will have Echo. As for the CGI...yeah, it's still pretty bad. The CGI team especially can't seem to perfect the mouth. That part still looks cartoony to me. And the hair that doesn't seem to move much.

That's really, really shady that they tell you to waive all liability from CGC even if they are negligent. No real incentive to treat stuff well if every single member has agreed to this.

Our Recent Experience Selling Comics Through Mycomicshop
djzombi replied to thehumantorch's topic in Comics General
After reading the glowing reviews here, I've sent my first small batch of consignment CGC-graded books to Mycomicshop. I've been a buyer for years, but have never sold through them (or to them). Fingers crossed. -
The damage could have been done by Suayan while doing the art on your book. There is a disclaimer upon submission that this is a possibility, and you have to acknowledge you have read that disclaimer before printing your submission form. I don't mention this to say your disappointment is unjustified. I would be really upset as well.

Are prices still climbing or have they eased up a bit???
djzombi replied to InfantTerrible's topic in Comics General
Hey guys, I'm just an insufficiently_thoughtful_person that thought the chart was comparing recent sales to Heritage auction prices from "7/17/18." Nothing to see here... move along... (I'll blame it on me being tired...yeah, let's go with that...) -
Are prices still climbing or have they eased up a bit???
djzombi replied to InfantTerrible's topic in Comics General
It looks like a lot of those books listed are sinking back down to values close to those in 2018. In some cases, extremely close. It's interesting to see that some books in some grades are actually worth less now than four years ago (see: ASM #3, GSX). Edit: Nevermind! I was misreading the chart! My bad! -

Finally got around to opening the Marvel 3- and 7-packs I got a while ago, as well as some more recently. Here's round 1 of pics, more to come. Curious mix of Walmart exclusive covers, regular editions, 2nd prints, and incentive variant covers. The Hulk #1 pictured here seems to be a 1:10 ratio variant.

PGM Harbinger #1 (With Coupon)
djzombi replied to StudebakerHawk's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
That color breaking spine tic seems to wrap around to the back, parallel with the number "9" in the ad. I'd say maybe a 9.2.
