Popular Post Crimebuster Posted November 1, 2023 Popular Post Share Posted November 1, 2023 (edited) My new comic Quest #2 is currently live on Kickstarter, and since this issue features my main character Vhess the paladin battling the undead, it only made sense to me to do a Walking Dead homage cover. You know how much I love my homage covers! This is an homage to Tony Moore's cover for The Walking Dead #19, the first appearance of Michonne. I particularly enjoy trying to get the trade dress right. I couldn't quite match the Walking Dead logo font, but this one is pretty close and invokes the feel nicely. I was able to match the font for the issue number, and also the "image" in the company logo - since my brand is Crimebuster Comics, I moved the dot from the image "i" to turn it into a "c." I always try to get the covers as close as possible to the original while still making them fit my comics. In this case I might have been a little too faithful with the zombies and background elements, I'm not sure. I usually use a different brush, as you can see with the figure of my character Vhess - this time I tried something else with the background, but I think it means my character maybe doesn't blend in with the other elements as well as the line weight is different. Slower even than Mark Schultz Xenozoic Tales !! Having him do all the insides as well as the covers takes time. And it's a labor of love more than anything else. One thing about the artwork trickling in is the writing gets rewritten and polished 100 times. I also made lunch for our daughter from 1st through 4th grade and drew a pic on her paper bag ...every single day. She says she wishes she kept them..
