I put in years and miles and gas and time, and my conclusion is luck and location are a HUGE factor.

Especially, when you have local dealers going to the same locations and competing for every little morsel.

The best deals I've had are from good dealers who are willing to negotiate with good customers (I've had a really good dealer call me whenever a good haul came in, and would negotiate fairly).

Competition is a very real element, especially these last couple of years. Ten years or so ago, I may have been one of two or three guys showing up at all of the local estate sales and auctions. Nowadays, there are tons, and they tend to overpay and run prices up as well. The game has changed for sure.

Very true. Add to the fact that most of the truly vintage stuff has already been dug out.

I rarely find much out in the wild that I figure is worth my gas and time to pursue.

But, the more you do it, the better your chances are of getting lucky…

Brings back good memories. Especially, remembering the toy displays in the toy stores.

The closest I came may have been VR Troopers, or some such lol

A bit before my time but had family that were into Shogun material (thumbsu

There were about 20 shortboxes laid out on his driveway. Luckily I did buy all of his runs. What’s shown are the highlights. I got full runs of X-Men from 159-316, BP 1-40, WD 7-101, etc. What I didn’t picture is a near full run of Simone Bianchi Batman and Detective Comics covers! That’s a beautiful run that I was stoked to get! And the conditions are high grade :)

Good job!  I'm at the point now if I see something like that, I quickly just buy the lot, or pass....my time is valuable these days...

Before I purchased the aforementioned collection I wanted to get a better look at the comics with a higher value (when spending serious $$$ who wouldn't) so what better issue to start with than an Avengers #1!

The bag was VERY tight, an old mylite from days of yore...anyway, got it out with a little effort...back cover look decent so pretty happy.

However, when attempting to put the comic back I just didn't feel comfortable so I told the gentleman that if he had an extra bigger bag he may want to put it in that...he said that it was no problem to put it back in and proceeded to jam it in and.....well, the result is in the pic. :pullhair:

Needless to say when I looked at other issues of value I put the comic back in the bag from that point out.....
