Some completely random purchases from a toy show this weekend.

First up, some choose your own adventure books. Many of these were sold in sets for books 1-5/1-6, so the early ones were heavily produced. The later books are harder to find. I'll put a random story about these in the spoiler in case anyone cases to read it.

I like to read these to my kids, 8 and 5 years old. My five year old son can't quite read yet, so I read him the story and options, then let him choose what to do. Slight exaggeration, but both the Transformers and GI Joe books have a scenario where your entire team is taken out, leaving you alone. You can choose to fight an unstoppable army on your own, or go get help. My son, without fail, always says, "fight." I remind him about the situation, and even re-read parts of the page where the books is basically telling you that it's hopeless to go on your own. Sure enough, we die on the next page. But we just go back and choose the other option. Until we are faced with the choice again in the future, and without fail, we "fight" again and die.

In all my years of collecting and buying collections, I've never owned the tin from the X-Men Series 1 (Jim Lee) set. The only way to get this "Power Ratings" card is from a tin, which I didn't even know existed until I started re-cataloging my trading card collection a few years ago and looked up all the sets on an online checklist. I kept the tin and card, and quickly sold the full base set and hologram set.

 

Another board member posted a sealed package of these. I had never seen them before, and I've been looking for them since. I see this box precariously stacked at the back of a vendor's book during the show setup. I ask him how much he wants for it. He says I'm the 5th person to ask him about it. I don't remember exactly what I said, but something like, "well, I've been looking for that collector's box for a while, so what will it take to make me the last one to ask about it?" He smiled and we worked it out.

 

Same vendor also had this display. I asked how much, he asked me to make an offer...which I hate doing. I said I don't know, as while I collect point of sale items, I don't collect a lot of Superman stuff. He said $10, so I took it.

Picked this item up yesterday.

It's seen plenty of use and abuse... I Have comics that are perfect for a rack like that.

Will try to clean it up a bit, maybe fab a base so it will once again Merry-Go-Round.

 was that also an arcade? if it is the game that I remember, I loved it and games like it, but only a few had games like that. Wasn't it also a genre? like a lot of games similar? I'm going to have to google now that I know what to type  Like a side scroller shooter, but with a bunch of enemies at once and a whole lot of power ups?

Cover Price Pick Ups

Found this one this morning at my local Swap Meet.  My ‘landfill’ guy had this amongst a couple dozen girlie mags from the 50’s. It’s a bit beat up but what would you expect coming out of a landfill? It is the # 1 so how cool is that?

I may hold onto this one because of the Everett cover. Like the newspaper boy said in ‘Better Off Dead’ …it cost 2 bucks.

Those 4 short boxes of horror above were very reasonable.

I'm picking up 11 longs and 6 shorts on Saturday, plus 3 other people want to have a total sell-off.

Maybe the markets finally turning into a buyers one - at least for low level non-blue chip stuff anyway.

All Bronze Copper and Modern it should be noted.

NOT comics but went to a card convention today in the US and noticed a number of previously, older “hot” cards were marked down. In some cases by hundreds of dollars. That being said, it was the busiest convention floor I’d seen in years and modern sig x rarities were very expensive - for example anything Burrow, Josh Allen, Ja Morant, etc., related. Also, tons of Pokémon

Thanks for the con update! Time for me to sell those Josh Allen, Jokic, and Doncic slabs + raw cards!
