They're in the first Who's Who series from DC

Catwoman:  issue 4

Dolphin: issue 7

Phantom Lady: issue 18

anyone got the covers for the Who's Who issues so I can be on the lookout? usually when i see these in the collections i buy, it goes straight to the bin...the garbage bin.

The two best covers in the run, for sure. It's an unusual book, in that it ran for 50 issues, but I pretty much never, ever see them. In fact, the few copies I run across are usually the Dave covers, because Dave fans kept 'em! Also, they're somewhat difficult in grade, as those squarebound covers tend to get wavy, for some reason. I wouldn't mind having a complete run, if I could find them on the cheap. Moebius, Kaluta, Giger, Vess, Mignola, Bolton, etc.  There's a ton of great art on that series.

I’ve never understood why - in an age where Michael Turner art gets recycled and tweaked by publishers all the time - some of this classic Stevens art is not “redeveloped” for new covers. Even if the publishers don’t do it, why don’t stores for their exclusives?

The Stevens estate is active and easy to find - they even sell on eBay - so it seems straightforward.

To be fair, Jetpack Comics did some amazing Stevens exclusive covers years ago on some Rocketeer issues, but why not others?

Agreed. I would love to see the cover of Vamps and Vixens repurposed for one of the Bettie Page series that Dynamite puts out every year.

There's a truly rare Dave piece up on the bay right now. This one has been on my want list for many, many years. I thought I'd have a shot when I was willing to spend $250 on it. Well, it's currently at $405, and has four days to go. Really curious to see where this one ends up. I'd love to have it, but just can't justify the cost. Maybe another boardie will have a shot?

Been watching this. Book looks to be in excellent condition based on the scan. Curious to see the hammer price. Didnt bother to even bid in it.

Agreed about the condition. It LOOKS nice, but it's only a front cover scan, so who knows what the back is like, or if there's any damage that might not show up in a single scan. If I was going to throw a lot of money at it, I'd want more pictures, I think. Then again, part of me is considering taking a run at it. I've not seen one up for sale, so I know there are likely to be a lot of folks willing to go hard to grab it. Then again, who knows when there will be another one on the market? Ugh.I need to just forget about it and walk away before I drive myself nuts!

Never seen a copy myself. Can't even find a listing for it on MCS surprisingly. Now I need it for my DS collection. I rember the sketch of that image being in one of the Dave Stevens art books. Checked census. Only 2 graded so far. Bet that 9.6 is a beauty!

I've seen pics of it before, but never seen one for sale. it's been on my checklist for many, many years, to the point where I was beginning to wonder if it even existed! So I can only imagine that there are a lot of eyes on it. This may get silly, price wise!

Oooooh yeah. $635 and over a day left in the auction. After giving it a lot of thought, I decided I'd make a run at it...but now it's way beyond what I'd be willing to pay. I made an agreement with myself that I could live with $500. Well, that ain't happening! It's not even a comic, it's a catalog! ha Still, it looks to be in nice shape, and it's a lovely image. I wonder what the record is for a Dave comic at auction? I can't think of many pieces that would go for this much, if any, even in 9.8. And this sucker is raw. 

My hope at this point is that this thing gets even sillier, and that brings more copies out, which would hopefully sell for less. Surely there are some hardcore Dave fans driving this thing up, bidding against each other. The next copy that comes up for auction (whenever that might be) would hopefully not go as high, as the buyer pool would be smaller by at least one copy. Fingers crossed we see some more soon.
