What are your thoughts on the two Timely "All" series? Is All Winners 1 always going to be a "no respect" Timely. It is a very early Simon Cap appearance that very few collectors seem to care about. Market spoken?

As far as All Select, seems like 4 is the toughest of the run, what say you?

all winners has languished in lack of respect increasing price wise, for a long time now...not sure anything will change that.... it is a cool book and a must for serious ga timely collectors...

I found as 4 early on, and had most trouble with 3 and 5... but those 3 seems to be in the "difficult" category, and as is the case with most ga titles, specific issues seem cyclical in their availability

I wonder why All Winners has languished in lack of respect increasing price wise?

it is all relative...pre internet, it was a much bigger book...reflected as such in the price guide... in today's market environment, it just doesn't command the "relative" prices that it's timely counterparts do...

But why?

Lackluster cover. If All Winners #1 was sporting the cover to All Select #1, it would be twice the price it is now.

Bedrock already knows the answer but for any that don't and care to know...Days past it was a timely #1...that got it some pg cred. As west said, in today's slabbed cover centric focus, it has fallen behind.

Thanks for the insight guys. The cover is somewhat lackluster, but isn't everything non-Schomburg? lol

The worst thing I ever saw was at a Philly con in the 80s. Jay Maybruck was particularly sniffly that day (which seemed odd to me as a teenager who was watching Miami Vice) and in an angry mood. He bumped into his wall of books and most of them came tumbling down. I remember not feeling very sorry for him but expecting a huge explosion of anger. He was pretty mad.

When Greg Buls first put the Circle 8 collection out for sale at a San Diego show in the early '90s I pulled an entire long box of DCs, Quality and Archie comics. Beautiful runs of mid to late '50s of titles like Plastic Man, Black Hawk, House of Mystery and Archie. He had just purchased the collection and most of the books had not been bagged yet, much less priced. He priced the books that night and the next morning they were ready for me. The total was north of $10K, which was fair for over two hundred beautiful pedigree condition comics. But as he was getting ready for the day he accidentally dumped a whole Big Gulp size drink off of the edge of his table into the box! Almost all of the comics were soaked. We were able to salvage about fifteen books. It was a huge bummer all around.

The way he explained it to me later was that he and Greg Harris were restocking his table stock boxes that morning. Harris had pulled all of the boxes forward so he could see better what was needed. Buls was behind the table getting stuff in order and put his drink down on the back side of the table vacated by the forward boxes. Harris left to go do something and Buls went around to the front to push the boxes back into place, forgetting that his big drink was still back there. The box of Circle 8 books just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
