Bernie Wrightson Appreciation Thread

I just picked up Bernie Wrightson's Frankenstein adaptation of Mary Shelly's book put out by Dark Horse.

I bought it for my oldest daughter as a birthday gift, and it's utterly beautiful. It's big, printed with a linen lined hardcover and it's very high quality...and not every expensive at all. I think sticker price was $29 or so.

I'd highly recommend it in case someone out there has not read this story yet with Bernie's illustrations.

against all pre warning i have just judged that book by its cover, and it's amazing

EDIT: there are model kits for Wrightson's Frankenstein

The book makes a wonderful gift because it's a true literary classic, it's wonderful to behold and it transcends comics.

It's a terrific "coffee table" book or for someone's library.

I posted this over in the Original Comic Art forum, so apologies in advance if you've seen it already, but I thought you'd like to see this Wrightson painting which I purchased at the most recent ComicLink auction:

WrightsonFaceMelt.jpg

It was apparently commissioned in connection with the production of the movie ultimately titled Dagon, which in turn is based on the H.P. Lovecraft story "The Shadow Over Innsmouth".

Enjoy!

Wow!

And...yuck!

Dagon was directed by Stuart Gordon, who also made Re-Animator and From Beyond (both fairly loose HPL adaptations).

Volume two is much, much harder to find. This one's in minty-mint condition.

Both of these books have several B&W illos by Wrightson inside.

I know. I picked up both from greggy about 4 years ago. Love them. (thumbs u

Last month Heritage sold an interior illustration from Volume 1 (I think) for $11,950.

I'm stoked to get this in. I have been wanting a copy for a long time. This is the Deluxe Leatherbound Edition w/Slipcase limited to 250 copies of Berni Wrightson: A Look Back, published in 1979. It is a beautiful copy with no noticeable flaws. 360 pages of Wrightson goodness :cloud9:

One of those sold on eBay last week with a split in the case.

I was going to go for it but it got out of my budget right before Christmas.

Maybe I'll find one later in the year.

Congrats on yours! (worship)

Dare I ask how low the eBay sale went for?

And :applause: to yours, telerites.

ST #37 is a great issue. I bought those issues and had my #37 among others signed by Bissette, Totleben and Veitch. Still at CGC amongst the cobwebs.

I stopped buying comics around 1987 after college and haven't bought a new book since but I returned to collecting about 7-8 years ago, mainly GA with some SA and BA focus.

Swamp Thing #7 (Batman cover - Wein/Wrightson series) is one of my favorite comics ever.

Link $315 with a split in the slipcase.

One of these would be the crown jewel in my Wrightson collection. :luhv:
