There’s some other coppers heating up also that should make it onto some “hot lists”

I see a lot of sales of Punisher 1 regular series so we may see that one on the list.  What else are you seeing?

Secret Wars II 3.. first Beyonder (this wasn’t the book I was seeing) but it’s on a hot list… Punisher 1 is an all time classic tho. That should always have lots of demand

It's bit difficult to find in 9.8, 9'6's and 9.4's are far more plentiful.   Not saying the 9.8 is low population, but given the era it does present more of a challenge than many other big selling books of the time  It was the book that changed THE Punisher from a mostly obscure Spider-Man villain to an "A-lister" with 3 monthly titles a few years later.  Arguably the 2nd most important book for the character after ASM129...

Far too rare to be hot and being a DC doesn't help :) :

Very inflated price; the seller gets a huge over as a trusted seller that consistently undergrades. Everyone sees the comics4less sales and thinks they can get the same prices for their books. You can get IH 377 for a third of that price.

Ok, so I won't rush to dig mine out for submission to CGC then LOL

Yeah, I don't get it. I was shocked by the price and thought about listing - I have a cgc 9.6 and a raw newsstand that's probably an 8.5. I saw that post and figured I'd sell the raw for something, but then I realized you can still buy a NM raw of that book for like $10-15... what's the deal there? Just because it's undergraded and you might pull a 9.8? So you're taking a chance by paying $120 to maybe get a $200 book IF you pay the $30-something grading fees (after potential press and shipping, etc.) and wait 9+ months and hope it's a 9.8? That seems... not smart...

Edit to add - I paid $30 for my 9.6 about a year and a half ago, and I bought the newsstand for $5 a couple weeks ago.

Yep it sure does defy conventional logic. After purchase+shipping then all ancillary expenses related to grading factored to save perhaps $15-$25 on a book does not seem fiscally wise.  Far too much risk, far too little reward given if you get 9.6 you are eating a big percentage loss. I agree simply purchase a 9.8, as a bird in hand....

I'm a Mike Mignola fan, as evidenced by my creating an appreciation thread some time ago in which I commented his copper age books haven't increased in value. Today, out of curiosity I looked up what his Aliens: Salvation one shot is going for and it's fair to say it's heated up...

This is the highest recent sale but there's several around the $60 AUD mark also. Not so long ago this was a $5-6 book...

I follow that local seller and I’ve noticed the high price increase too

This is the "Kayfabe effect". Ed Piskor and Jim Rugg covered this book in a recent video on their YouTube channel. They tout the "Kayfabe effect" explicitly and tell people to go buy copies before they disappear due to the videos driving interest.  🤷🏻

Groo was mentioned earlier in this thread but not specifically the Marvel Epic Comics Groo the Wanderer.

Issue 119 and 120 have had some good numbers on ebay. (~$55 for 120 on it's own).

I ended up selling a several different runs of Marvel Epic Groo the Wanderer.

For my set of 111 to 120 got an average of $10 a book (although it was more about 119 and 120). For 101 to 110 average of $7 a book. Active listings got bids for runs of 91 to 100 and 81 to 90.

I sold a full 100-120 run for $300 quickly in high grades about a year or more ago

Nice. I should have paid more attention back then. :)

Didn't get as much, but still making out better than I thought I would. Was at a point I'd thought I sell them for about a $1 a piece.  Still have a few more lots to post and sell.

I’d definitely hold onto Groo until something actually releases
