Uh, what? Last one went for auction a little over $400.  Book is getting hot, but this hot?? Wonder what a newsstand would go for?

That didn't sell for $2,000, it was listed at $2k or best offer. It sold for $300

It's cool to see Purves get some love. My recollection from my middle school days was that all of my friends were McFarlane freaks, so when he left Hulk, and Purves came on, he was the WORST ARTIST IN THE WORLD. Their opinion, not mine. I thought his stuff looked pretty cool, and honestly, in hindsight, a lot more solid (though admittedly less flashy) than Todd's.

There are some seriously underrated Purves covers. Probably because McFarlance before him, and Keown after him, get a lot of attention.

You and me both. I have the complete run plus of the Eagle Comics series and I have never thought about putting them on the block.  Bolland covers of any title, I have a hard time letting go of. (how's that for a "dangling participle."

u tubbers only want 1st appearences, first issues and an occasional 1st cover appearences. So on USA issued Dredd its num 1s only.  There will be no coattail riding from them almost never is...

Groo; Marvel Age 24 predates the first Marvel Groo. Its great cover as well. However census pop is so low it could be months or years until another 9.8 shows up for sale.  Apparently a high cencus pop is a near must have to be a hot book.....

Purves was great fun, tough act to follow type stuff there. But I loved his take on Hulk and Peter David was smart to make Joe Fixit the focus so comparisons would be harder. Liam Sharpe as smoking too, loved his darker take. I loved The Pantheon storyline and was apparently in the minority who were disappointed when that team didn't grab people's attention.

I’m with you on the Pantheon. I think the entire Peter David Hulk run, across the various artists, was Marvel’s best, most consistent title of that era. Waaaay under the radar as a whole.

Hard to believe this crappy garbage was popular and in demand at one time.

I bought many Image books during that time period.

I don't recall this book getting "hot" until Platt (issue 4 variant).  But I could just be mis-remembering.

Easily the best Marvel title of that era, I'd say. Nocenti's nearly 5 year run on Daredevil (from '86 to '91) was solid, but David delivered the goods for more than double that length, 12 years.

I don't know about DD myself, so many stupid villains month after month. I see Bengal in my head even now. And that kid's father from the one cover. I also did not like Typhoid Mary but it wasn't until Scott McDaniel that I left the title.

so we agree some and some, not so much

Pantheon was very very good. And David was going soap opera with Ajax and stuff, lots of good character drama, and some guys went bad but Banner is smarter and ahead of them all or is he and then Hulk decided to leave and we never hear from them all again.
