Now if we can get Mr.T and the T-Force signed books or Extreme 0 hot I can buy that new car

Mr. T was part of the A-Team before T-Force.

That makes Mr. T and the T-Force the "A-Force prototype". :acclaim:

Speaking of Avengers 196 check out this 9.8 below. Wow :insane:

Look closely

Avengers 196 9.8 raw

That back cover has poo on it.

And a big ol' nasty grease(?) stain on the front cover

And yet, someone was willing to plunk down $150+ for it.

Sigh.

For a book that would probably grade 9.0-9.2 at CGC, that's not too bad.

I tried bidding in their latest offerings, but when I bid what the books were worth, based on their actual conditions, I got beaten on all but a single book....and that, a book I didn't look closely enough before bidding.

Even their CGC books sell for crazy amounts. That IF #14 8.0? $100+ more than current GPA. Sure, it definitely looked to be "improvable"...but if the 90 day average WAS $173 (and it was), and the last 9.4 sold for $320....where does anything think they're going to make up that difference?

8.0 to 9.4 is a stupendous leap, and not possible for most 8.0s. But the high bidder paid $272 to maybe improve it $100 worth, minus costs...?

It's a head scratcher.

Do people not look at the books they are buying?!?!?! geez...

Apparently not. :eyeroll:

SOME people profit off of others not being able to grade.

Maybe he should form a team called the T&A Force?

I used to check out the sparkle city auctions when they where mostly CGC books. They started selling a lot of Raw books and the grading seems blown up like the example above.

Same here. I bid and won a few every now and then when the slabs were on ebay. Even then it appeared that CGC's grading was rather loose on many books. Now that they have moved to raw stuff I rarely find anything that looks accurately graded.

Also, this book is another amazing example of things I sell about 3 months too early.

Same here. There was already one speculation bump on Static a few months ago, when it was announced that there would be some sort of animation project involving the character. At the time I gobbled up every copy I could find for $1 or less, and was blasting them out for $10-$15 each. That lasted about two weeks. I ended up selling my last batch for about $10 for an bagged/newsstand set. I made great money at the time, so I'm trying to not kick myself about the fact that I didn't see the larger spike coming.

Back to the quarter bins!

I am sure that the reason why dealers like Sparkle City Comics grade so loosely is because they are well known for buying pedigree collections, they are Overstreet advisors and so on.....so "green" collectors associate dealers like Sparkle City as being authorities in the field .

Consequently, Sparkle City know they can get away with ridiculously liberal grading standards.

There are a couple other big name dealers / Overstreet advisors who pull the same sort of tricks, with selling overgraded raw comics on eBay......green collectors will pay higher prices from these sorts of dealers because green collectors are duped into paying a premium for the dealer's status in the hobby and being able to say" I bought this from Sparkle City Comics"

This Avengers 196 looks like an 8.0 to an 8.5, just by eyeballing the pics.
