Zack Snyder On How BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE Transcends Superhero Films

The site asked Snyder to share his thoughts on recent comments from film legend Stephen Spielberg (who contends that superhero films "will [go] the way of the Western"), weighing on the lasting legacy of the comic book cinema.

"It goes to the mythological nature of the movies that we're making," he said. "I feel like he's right. But I feel like Batman and Superman are transcendent of superhero movies in a way, because they're Batman and Superman. They're not just, like, the flavor of the week Ant-Man — not to be mean, but whatever it is. What is the next Blank-Man?" A jovial jab at the competition, yes, but Snyder does raise a good point about the iconography of the movie's titular heroes.

"What we went after was the humanity of each character," he continued. "We tried to say, 'What would Batman have to do to unravel Superman, and what would Superman have to do to unravel Batman?' Their conflict is based on each others' understanding of the other's weakness. The fun of that is when you're dealing with these mythological creatures—to make them human again, bring them back to earth. And to do that you have to know the rules before you can break them. They have to go all the way to the stratosphere before you can bring them back down."

Josh Brolin Doesn’t Have Bad Blood Over That Lost Batman Role

In 2013, Brolin revealed that the role Ben Affleck would eventually take for “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice” was very nearly his. Back then, the actor admitted that he had pondered what his own take on the role might have been, had he gotten the chance.

This week, at the Toronto International Film Festival promoting his upcoming film “Sicario,” Brolin made it clear that there was no bad blood between him and Affleck about the movie.

“I don’t have that thing, I wish I did,” he said of being jealous of missed opportunities and lost roles. “It would just be more interesting and more competitive, damn him. As much as you guys want to be pissed off, be pissed off, it’s all good. Start a f–king riot.”

In fact, he’s looking forward to seeing what Affleck does as the caped crusader come March 2016. “I’m really curious what he does,” Brolin said. “Beyond curious.”

BILL FINGER To Receive BATMAN Film Credit

http://www.newsarama.com/25963-bill-finger-to-receive-batman-film-credit.html

One of Batman's earliest writers, and contributor to many important aspects of his mythos, Bill Finger, is finally getting his due credit.

In a statement released Friday by DC Entertainment (via Heat Vision), Finger will receive a creative credit in both the Fox TV series Gotham, where versions of characters he created, such as Catwoman, appear, as well as the upcoming film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

While Finger, who passed away in 1974, has been recognized as one of the main architects of Batman's mythos behind the scenes for some time, it's only in recent memory that DC has begun acknowledging Finger as a co-creator, along with Bob Kane, of the dark knight.

“Bill Finger was instrumental in developing many of the key creative elements that enrich the Batman universe, and we look forward to building on our acknowledgement of his significant role in DC Comics’ history,” stated Diane Nelson, President of DC Entertainment. “As part of our acknowledgement of those contributions, we are pleased to confirm today that Bill Finger will be receiving credit in the Warner Bros. television series Gotham beginning later this season, and in the forthcoming motion picture Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.”

DC did not reveal what Finger's specific credit would be, or if it would extend to DC's comic books.

Gotham season 2 premieres September 21 on Fox, while Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters March 25, 2016.
