If not for the Foom #2 crazy price bump it is a cool book. The quasar reference above is way closer than the wolverine.

 

I would guess that maybe the Names and some of the foundations for ideas might have come from this contest. VERY INTERESTING ! Maybe it is a GEM collectable?

 

What about NOVATON. Nova was 1976. Man there is just to many similarity's of names and looks in this thing.

In terms of look and feel, of course he was and Cockrum freely admits this, that's not the question being posed.

 

Personally, I think this whole Wolverine prototype thing is stupid, but many of the other pictures look to have better linkages to Bronze Age characters.

Like that Midnight Stranger character (MOKF?) and DarkStar and that guy flying (in the fold). And what about Star-Hawk? That one jumped right out at me as a potential direct rip-off.

That Stefan Wolff/Punisher guy does look quite amusing, just off his horse in a serious bow-legged stance, shooting at a poor guy going for a dump in the woods. Classic stuff.
