Some rough scenes in both these books, but especially in Keene's (Daniel White) Southern Daughter.

A young woman is brutally attacked by her brother but is "saved" just in time by her father.

The cover for "Southern Daughter" is over-the-top "hillbilly"  The artist is unknown but was a skilled painter who just made those faces so kind-of-inbred looking.

Your copy of "Violent Night" is a beautiful specimen of those early Ace singles that are very compact and full of pulp goodness!

This one's got 'Marihauna' in it, as well as 'Rear Window', and his supernal classic 'The Night Reveals'.

"The Night Reveals" is one of my favorites, and of course, the subject of that haunting Popular Library cover :cloud9:

@OtherEric These stories are also in "After Dinner Story", by which name the collection was first published and is available as an ASE (which I recently posted). So you have two more reasonably available vintage paperback avenues by which to grab a "Marihuana" pb appearance :headbang:

Thank you for the heads up, I've got a copy of "The Best of William Irish" on order from ABE books, which includes the After-Dinner Story collection.  It also has Phantom Lady (which I have) and Deadline at Dawn (which I don't).

This was a good read. A Sherlock Holmes type story with Mr. Mycroft as one of the main characters. I couldn't tell if he was supposed to be Mycroft Holmes or an old Sherlock Holmes with a fake name.

This cover always makes me think of "The Fly"

It was pretty bizarre and incredible for its time.

Time for a look back at some paperback books I have collected with GGA covers over the last few years.

Danger Trail, loosely based on a 7 year period in Florida where mail was delivered on foot along the coast.

Last but not least Werewolf of Paris.

I'm still in awe of your copy of "Werewolf" I  haven't found the one for me yet, they just don't show up lately.

That one is Bill Randall and your other artists are Bergey, Belarski, Johnson and Heade so i'd say you have fine taste in GGA 🙂 (don't know who it is on Danger Trail, should be inside the book, most Bantams from this period have art credits inside)
