Avon Fantasy Reader #3, I'm only a couple away from the set so getting determined now  This was a bargain Facebook find... i'm widening my horizons! Mostly krap on there but you never know

This was from the same Facebook seller. They Drive by Night by A.I Bezzerides. Been collecting vintage pbs for 40 years and don't think I've ever seen a high grade copy of this book. This is an upgrade for picky me and sold my undercopy for very nice coin, even though it was a bit of a wreck. I'd love to see a high grade if anyone comes across one.

Nice!  I really need to track down the last 3 issues of the run I'm missing before they go nuts, I stopped for a while once I got all the Lovecraft issues.

It's not a bad idea to pick up any Frazetta paperback covers in nice shape from the 60's - 80's that can be reasonably had, considering what has been happening to his covers in every other medium

@OtherEric, i'm right with you now. Down to needing 3 for the set. I'd bet even money this cover is by Tilburne (and 2,3,5 &6) tho I could never prove it other than stylistically.

Would LOVE to go one day but to fly completely across the country without some other reason would be cost prohibitive for me. I believe someone (Robot Man?) posted some pictures from this convention at some point or another and there was lots of cool stuff. I am still hoping to possibly swing Windy City...

This bonanza of beauties arrived today

A couple of pretty rare late # Croydon "Girls"

Bernard Safran cover on this one

Wonderfully moody Lou Marchetti cover on this one. It wasn't even listed in Warren's big guide.

These two yellow cover Leisure Library's are ones you don't see often

One of the uncredited non-Heade covers  Fixed that - it is signed by Heade all the way down in the corner!

Another Falcon I didn't have. They just rarely come up for sale. Uncredited but it looks like George Gross art to me.

Finally a pretty nice upgrade for me of one of the top 10 Drug books imho. Legendary Julian Paul cover on a tough black background. I got aced out of a really nice one last year that bid up over $200, but this one is nicer, just has a dust shadow at the bottom but is unread and no creasing on the cover. 

It's a good day

Just received a copy of "That Hideous Strength". After mulling the choices over I decided to obtain the 1956 version published by Pan. In hand the cover looks better than I thought it would be. As an aside the books title is derived from a work by Sir David Lindsay describing the tower of Babel.

Happiness is a warm box of Peanuts Rinehart/Holt Rinehart 1st editions   

Especially when half of them are 1st printings in nice shape 

While I'm wrapping up the Raymond Johnson article and checklist, I've started a checklist/reference of the 1st Edition/1st Printing points of the Peanuts Digests. It's amazing to me that no one has done this online before. There is so much confusion on ebay and ABE about what constitutes the true 1st prints.

I've seen many later prints claimed and priced as true 1sts and scooped up many a bargain true 1st. While I'm happy to have assembled a complete collection relatively inexpensively, I think it's time to set the record straight.

There's a couple of sites that list out which strips are in which, but none that list the 1st Printing identifiers. Some of these books seem common because all of them went through many printings, dozens in some cases, so you see a lot of these covers. But the 1st prints, especially the 1st couple of books, are not common.

A new arrival, even tough it was ordered the same day as Hideous Strength. Author of 46 books about sleuth Nero Wolfe Rex Stout wrote The Case of the Black Orchids in 1942 (9th in the series). One wonders if Stout was a hen pecked husband. His second novel was titled "The League of Frightened Men".
