and one of these...:foryou:

The Brides of Dracula was the title I was referring to (I know you know, just saying).  Very tough book in grade.  Jack the Ripper is also on the list but it's a little out of the subset.  I keep wondering if there's a Monarch MM601.  Haven't been able to find anything about one.  It seems odd they would start at MM602 with the movie adaptations but I suppose it's possible.

MM600 was a Van Johnson war movie titled "The Enemy General"

MM601 is a movie tie-in to Hammer Films' "The Stranglers of Bombay" (don't recall seeing a copy).

Jack the Ripper was actually the first Monarch movie tie-in, before they decided to separate them out - and then bring them back into the main series. Given that, and the great horror aspect and even greater cover art on Ripper (most likely Ray Johnson) it's on the Monarch must have list imho :cloud9:

It's taken me many years but i've finally completed the set of 8 Stork Books digests.
A true classic Golden Age Vintage Paperback digest line. The first 6 with covers by Fred Rodewald and the last 2 by L.B. Cole. I love the muted quality of the ink colors against the dramatic GGA.

#5 was the last in line for me... it's a nice copy...

Very nice, SA!!  I think I'm still missing 2 or 3 of them but I can't remember which ones off the top of my head.  What a great set!  :applause:

Thanks 👍 Two of the rarest LB Cole covers in that set 🤘 and of course, Fred Rodewald is probably the ArtistMostLikelyTo KickFutureAzz$Wise😆😆😆

It's kind of crazy how coincidences and fate work. Woolrich writes so well about these things so maybe this was just meant to be.

Shortly after posting what I thought was my "forever" upgrade to my RSG copy, I was searching the internet, trying to find out more information about Avon's subsidiary Diversey Publishing Corporation as I occasionally do, when I came upon an obscure tiny ad for a copy of RSG and three other scarce Avon Digests. There were a couple of pictures, one of them containing a portion of the first page of text and my heart jumped a beat because I could see that the first page contained letters.  The infamous letters that Avon excised out of the book after model Marty Collins' father threatened to sue Avon over the incestuous father/daughter relationship revealed in the fictional letters.

I was quite wary because, even though the ad was obscure, the seller was asking for a fair amount of $ for the books. I contacted the seller, and after several rounds of back and forth, she offered to accept payment by credit card, so I would have comfort that I could reverse charges if she was a scammer. Well the books arrived the other day and the RSG is legitimate and complete with the letters page, and in excellent condition. The only other copies of this book with the letters page I have seen in 10 years or so of online records were one that @SOTIcollector had posted on the boards back in 2019, the copy that is on Worthpoint , and a copy that sold on AbeBooks years ago.

So I posted the book on a highly active Facebook page and set said page on fire with activity and comments. So far, out of 16K+ members on there, two have said they had copies with the letters page at some point in time.

Although I'm sure you guys are tired of seeing my RSG's posted :deadhorse:  lol   I feel an obligation to post it here since this is the best and brightest vintage pb crowd I know and the ones I actually consider friends      The letters pages are pretty creepy and I can see why her father was upset!

The three other Digests are pretty scarce too. I have a copy of "Night Club", it's an early Raymond Johnson cover, and I have seen "Regenerate Lover" before, but I have never seen a copy of "Marianne In India" in 35 years of collecting. It may be rarer than RSG but it also may just never show up for sale because it doesn't have the fame/value of RSG - still I am sure it is pretty scarce since i've seen just about every other Avon digest for sale at some point or another.

Great RSG acquisitions S.A. (thumbsu I also like the Night Club book.

I was browsing the Abe site recently and "discovered" the Saint books by Charteris. The Saint Goes West looks like a real knockout.

Saint Goes West is sweet. The Saint had a great run of paperbacks at Avon from the 1940's through the 60's (thumbsu

Another sweet set that is getting hard to put together cheap is the Ballantine EC's. They used to be everywhere but not so much now and tough to find clean. A lot of crossover appeal I guess.

Very cool. I had no idea these EC titles were ever carried in PB's. (thumbsu

I also picked up two digest sized pulps. To tell the truth I checked Bookery's Pulp guide to verify that the Avon Digest is a pulp.  I almost picked up this book the last time I visited Dreamhaven.  Plus it has an R. E. Howard story.

I also picked up this 1953 issue of Weird Tales with cover art by Jon Arfstrom. August Dereleth turns out to be a long time contributor to Weird Tales, having first submitted a story in April of 1926.

Avon Fantasy Reader has a lot of good reprints and even a then newly discovered Howard story in 18

I think there were 5 total, two of them being entirely Bradbury stories.  Tales of the Incredible is the only one I have, I need to look for the rest.

Yup, beside the two I posted, there's a Tales From the Crypt and the two Bradburys - The Autumn People and Tomorrow Midnight.

The Fantasy Readers are in that Twilight Zone between pulps, mags and anthology books but have that great content as @OtherEric pointed out and wonderful GGA on the later ones.  #14 is among the best on the latter point (thumbsu

Thanks. I agree this cover stands out compared to others in the Avon series. (thumbsu
